I wouldn't go any narrower than 225/40/18. People have run 255s on stock wheels which are the same width so you could go 255/40/18 if you really wanted to.

I have 235/40/18 on my 8.5" wide A-Specs with no issues.

Are you looking for an all season tire or are your A-Specs going to be dedicated to Summer use? Are your A-Specs 8.0 or 8.5 width? I have the 8.5" width and also have my Type S rims for Winter use. On my A-Specs, I am running 255/40 R18 with no issues.

Stick with a 40 sidewall. 45 will throw off your speedometer and look terrible.

I'd say 18" tires would be a good start.

Yes, I'm down near the Comcast Center. The original OEM size on the A-Specs was 235/40 R18. You might also want to play with the calculator in this link http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
It will give you an idea of what the differing sizes will do to your speedo as CL mentions and also give you scaled images of the tires if you select it on the right side under options.
