Tire Pressure Monitor

One feature I wish the TL currently had was a tire pressure monitor. But it appears NHTSA has addressed this, even if indirectly. According to the news report released today by AP new vehicles must have them in place by model year 2008. Apparently rooted back to the Firestone recalls of 2000. But it will certainly be a nice feature to have for both safety and performance issues.

I guess that should be added to the expected enhancements on the TLs.

I agree. The lack of tire pressure monitor almost caused me to buy a Lexus. I intensely dislike going from tire to tire with an old fashioned gauge...getting my hands dirty...and checking the tire pressure.

However, as you point out, it's an important task to regularly do for performance and safety purposes. My next car will have a monitor.

Yepper. Considering how much technology Acura packed in the TL for the $$$ this priority is one of the misses (IMO).

I'd glady sacrifice the GPS adjusting auto climate control (when / how does that work???) for the Tire Pressure Monitor. Considering how many issues the TL has had with tires (as many performanced tweeked cars) you think this would have been a priority. But when the accountants start hacking at the designer and engineer's intentions...this is what happens!

You know, I don't think the auto climate control adjusts if the windows are down if the moon roof is open.

since the canadian models have tire pressure monitors on their TL's; could we somehow add this feature out of our own pocket, since "parts" are already availible for the TL from Honda?

I went ahead and invested in an aftermarket TPSM system (Smartire) and had it installed on my 18" wheel and tire set-up. I can't give a report just yet since I haven't mounted the wheels and tires yet. I plan to put them on this weekend though and then I will post comments.

i believe the feature that was advertised was that if there is direct sunlight on one particular side, there are 'sensors' and will automatically increase the A/C

i believe it does this in very subtle wayss buttt.....

I hope they will stick it in the 06 model Where does the aftermarket display mount or is it somehow integrated into the MID?

I looked at the site and I have to say those are probably worth every penny. For about 250 you can get the four tire pressure monitors, and a display which tells you the pressures and temperatures and has an audible alert. For under 200 you can get it with a display that just blinks depending on which tire is low. But Its probaby worth it to get one that fits more with the car.

What about putting the TPM from the RL in the TL? Has anyone looked into the feasibility of that?

I also agree, I would have given up the another feature (Bluetooth?) to have a integrated TPM. Wonder if the Canada TL uses the MID for the TPM display or a warning light.

Just to clarify the Acura TL that is sold in Canada DOES NOT HAVE the TPM. The two extra features we do have is a windshield low warning light located in the dash as a yellow light and heated side mirrors. One item that is missing is the integrated fog lights since we have daytime running lights (required by law) in their place.

I said I would post comments...

Mounted my tires last night and got a chance to drive around some today. First of all, those Michelin PS2's are great! Anyway, about the SmarTire Tire pressure monitor, it works great. Shows the air pressure in each tire, the pressure deviation from the "set pressure" (that you select) and temperature. You can also set your specific warning limits for temperature and low pressure. Looks like good stuff

Don't get carried away, lots of us like bluetooth.

See the above post, there are aftermarket TPS systems available. I'll look into getting one of them. But, we love bluetooth.

I feel like I'm talking to myself here but follow the link to a cheap solution I'm going to try.

You're not talking to yourself.

Have you tried these gauges? It seems like they could be easily stolen.

Treblig: Do you have any pictures of the gauge(s) mounted inside your TL that you can share with us?

I do, but I'm "picture posting" challenged. If someone would be willing to host them, I would be more than happy to share a pic or two.
