Are the Tein SS much better than the Basics?

Is it worth while to pay the extra $200 for the SS, or will the Basics be suffice?

Anyone who has experience with both, please chime in. I have heard that the basics ride is not that bad, but I am wondering how much smoother the ride is with the SS. Right now I am leaning toward the basics.

I have the Basics, and I love them. They ride very smooth imo and not harsh/or stiff at all. Only reason why I went with the basics was I would never ever have any reason to change the settings on the ss's.

thanks for that tip Jay, sounds like the Basics would be suffice. I probably wouldn't tinker too much with the setup if I had the SS as well.

No problem I find the Basics to be more than sufficent and they ride great. Alot of people complain and say that ride harsh/stiff etc and I personally think they ride great. But like I said I found myself never having to pull the rear seat out and whatnot to adjust the dampering atleast with the basics I never have to find myself wanting to mess with that stuff all the time. Plus half the time my car sits in the garage anyways haha, so I don't really take my car to the track etc where changing the dampering would be helpful. You will be pleased with the Basics.

yup i did agree with what Jay says......i got the basics and they have been awesome.....i have had them for around 8-10K miles now.....

the only reason being the same......i wudnt really change the settings.....i mean i might mess with the ride height (during snow or track days or just show-off) but i wont be messing with the damping as much......

besides in ss you can adjust the damping from 1-12 (1 being stiffest) and the basic's come with a stiffness of 4-5 which is not really stiff (you wont feel some bumps) and not really soft (so you can corner at high speeds)......

i simply luv the way she rides with the setup......

From what I have seen here, the SS is better if you plan on adjusting the suspension or are worried about the ride. the good thing about the SS is that you can buy the EDFC and change the settings without removing the seats as other said. Also just a quick tip, go to live dot come, search for the suspension there and click the ebay link, you get about 10-35% cash back, one guy got the SS for 790 Shipped

So 1-12, 12 being the roughest or softest?

Wow, so if 12 is the softest, and the basics are set at 4 or 5, that makes them pretty stiff?

Now im thinking SS. I would probably want something around 7 or 8, but I am no expert as i have never ridden in a car with Teins. But 4 or 5 is close to the stiffest.

throw another 300 and get EDFC.....both the springs are made of the same material so its not like one is better than other.....just that one has a set stiffness and other you can change it.....

just a question.....how many time have you changed the stiffness so far.....once you feel comfy the way she rides you dont really mess with it do you ???

well the stock softness is prolly 9-10....so you will be riding on something similar to stock.....

all these figures that am putting here are the figures which the vendor told me while i was buying shocks.....i am not responsible or dont want to be help up by someone for those.....

yeah, that makes a lot of sense.. so on basics you cant change the stiffness and thats pretty much the only difference? what about the how low both coils can go, is that the same?

personally, I LOVE the SS's and the EDFC...to me, it was definitely worth the extra $$ to control the stiffness of the suspension.

ps, there are 16 settings, not 12

I really like having the EDFC and being able to play with the stiffness of the coils from the drivers seat...if you don't plan on adjusting the stiffness, don't get the SS's.

It is especially nice to be able to change the settings when you have passengers as opposed to riding by yourself. I ride with the suspension pretty tight, but when family or co-workers are in the car, I can make it soft again.

edit: height adjustability is the same with basics and superstreets.

yup.....both coils offer same drop.....but with the basics if you go toooo low there might be rubbing when you hit bumps and shit as they not toooo stiff.....

on ss.....you go as low as you want and set the stiffness to 1.....so there wont be rubbing.....as your ride your run over the bumps......the ride feels as if you riding on a car with a metal rod as coil-overs......

SS is worth every penny over basics- being able to set the fronts different than the rears- do a quick 5 second adjust to the fronts for dampening/rebound stiffness- or go all out with the eletronic EDFC controller with electric motors that turn the adjuster screws for you via an in cabin device-
SS has 16 MANUAL clicks-settings, the edfc can make that 32 for micro adjustments
2-3 is OE soft, 8 is what many of us run in town, 12 is most I have run mine at and 16 would be too stiff for a TL!
Basics set about 8-10, a little more sensation than stock but very driveable

The spring rate is not changed on SS- its the internal valving that allows how fast and firm it responds to bumps that gets adjusted when you move the knob.

If you raise or lower the bottem perch the spring sits on- that changes the cars height
Average min drop is 1.5 inches on teins and can go 2.5 down max
full specs are on MrHeelToe's site, and he is an authorized tein dealer and azinr vendor

iirc this months secret coupon code is: acurazinerocks

Just got my Tein SS a few weeks ago and I'm glad I didn't get the Basic's. I want to be able to adjust for roadtrips and such.

I'll get the EDFC in the next few months and I'm excited to do the install. Maybe we will have a front strut that will play nice by then.

SS with EDFC , the EDFC unit also add a nice touch to the interior. Very very happy with mine. Just waiting for someone to make a strut bar that compatible with the SS.(beside the Greddy).

one of you gen3rs needs to get out the torch and put new ends with open caps on the strut bar.
Its been a over a year and a half in process of getting a bar made but......
Unless you track day the car- you wont miss the front bar- and the fun of edfc will make the wait worth it!
You could take the front motors off and install the bar for track days.
Its simple to change the SS adjusters from manual to the motors- in seconds.

Wish I would have went with basics. lol.

I'm always like, "should I stiffen it? Should I make it softer?" I just wish it was one setting I didn't have to worry about. I have ridden in Jay's car, and a few others on basics, and it is a very comfortable ride, while still maintaining some performance aspects. Go with the Basics and put the extra money in the motor.
