Tein SS information please
Hello all,
Bought a set of Tein SS for my 04 Aspec TL. I have some questions please.
I bought them off of ebay...needless to say not as described. They are for 03 Accord/04+TL (model number is one number different from the TL's, but maybe it was a perfect fit back when they came out before Tein developed one for the 3rd gen TL...they seem to fit on my car fine). Wondering if, like stock there is a R or L? THey are not marked and seem to be interchangeable (not the tophats obviously).
I'm missing the knob for adjustment of the suspension on one, and there is nothing connected for adjustment on the other two. Only 1 of the 4 actually has rebound adjust...so for all practical purposes they're like basics. My questions are:
1: Would this affect anything other than rebound adjust? I mean, if the thing came out while set at an ok setting for me then for all practical purposes it'll be transparent.
2: I have the fronts installed and now I'm getting vibration while accelerating between 2500 and 4500 Rpms. A few members on the board confirmed (thank you!) what I thought, which was, I'm on almost bald tires and have now changed the toe and am causing it. Probably fixed with alignment and my new tires. I couldn't have messed up the axle from one second to the next, right? I mean, that seems crazy.
3: and MOST important right now, since I'm installing the rears today, The kit I received includes two shiny gold plates...big enough to be tophats. What are they for and where do they go? Are they even used for our applications?
Thank you in advance for all your help. Please give me advice if you know for sure.
J.

you can look up the install instuctions and height settings on Tein website
http://www.tein.com/tech_info/tacura.html
call them for advice 562-861-9161
You can also order replacement adjusters- those need to be set before you drive it
If set below 16 clicks it can damage the shocks
The seller may have had the edfc motors which require removal of the stock adjuster
Its the dampening rate that gets adjusted- by opening a slide valve that allows more oil flow and softens them
Rebound is largely a factor of spring winding rates and preloading

bald tires are bad- lowering the car makes it go toe out-
lowering just the nose must be an experience to drive~
On alignment- if neg camber is about 1.5 degrees- set the toe and let it go

Any idea on those gold plates? I'm gonna call them now. Thank you. I don't think it was set improperly because it drives soft to begin with but who knows. The one that DID have the adjustment knob was set at about 12 so I would imagine that's how he had them ALL set if he did have the EDFC.
Lol...the lowered front only is not as bad as one might think...it was actually VERY smooth on the highway. THe one inch setting from the website gave me NO FINGER Gap up front so I'll probably raise it up a bit. The bald tires are just till Monday when I install my new ones and get an alignement. I'm old enough to know not to take that stuff casually. It can be DANGEROUS!
Thank you!

Just got off the phone with them...what a helpful company! Thanks again for the tip!
Another quick question...does raising the lockring (compressing the spring) raise or lower the vehicle? I need to bring it up a little...it's pretty slammed up front.

Part of that slam is the current angle of the car is pushing the nose down
Did you put the fronts in front- they have the thicker springs
Someone else put the rear in front the other day~
EDFC is able to set fronts and rear seperate, you need to check each shock setting.
12 down left from full right-stop, is nice and gentle on freeway bumps-
16 down is full soft- softer than stock shocks
The upper of the 2 nuts is the perch height adjuster and the lower is the locking ring
To raise the car- use a spring compressor to take tension off the springs
Loosen the lower lock ring, use the adjuster wrench to bring the upper nut UP the threads, raise the lock nut and use both wrenches against each other to tighten/lock the 2 nuts together secuely
Measure and repeat on other side

the suspension-control arm should be supported while you do this- you are trying to take pressure off the shock so you can easily spin the nut up the threads
Lowering the car you dont have to compress the spring

Ok...so got everything buttoned up, including new tires and an alignment. I definitely put the right springs in front vs. back. They sit perfectly.
BUT...
i still have a faint vibration felt thru the steering wheel upon acceleration. Only really felt from 2500 to 3500k and mostly in 2nd gear. Only happened after installing the Tein. Anyone have any suggestions? I bought the shocks used on ebay and they're meant for an 03 accord but TEIN confirmed that they do have almost the same fitment and specs as the TL one.
Also, getting a light "thumping" noise from one of the rear shocks...can be heard in the car and it doesn't happen when going over a bump at all. Strange.
Any light shed will be appreciated.
