Tein SS Coilover Lifespan?

I've been on the Tein SS setup for about less than a year and have about 14k miles on it. When I first got them everything was sick, ride comfort to handling. Now I'm starting to notice a huge drop in ride quality where it feels more jarry which I can take, but the kicker is that I feel like my handling isn't as good as it was before. I can't take turns like I use to, the car sways and tilts to one side or another on turns I use to be able to easily take before.

So my question is what gives? I mean is 14k what is to be expected of these? I've read on the forums that people have them for about 25k and plus and report no problems. I know I can adjust the dampening and adjust the ride quality that way. I'm dropped at about a 2 finger gap all around.

Any suggestions?

Adjust the dampening. When I got my koni yellows installed the installer told me that after 8 months, the ride quality will get softer and I'll need to readjust them again.

do the car corner bounce test- push down 3-5 times, and see if it keeps bouncing or quickly stops within 1 bounce

Are you within Teins stated operating range for that shock?

regardless of tire clearance to fender, WHERE on the threads are you?
counting up from the bottem thread on the shock to the lock nut.

Tein rebuilds their shocks in Los Angeles- see the website for details
you can get whatever it needs taken care of
Call them and descibe your problem after these test

check the actual current dampening setting- go clockwise- right all the way till it stops on the adjuster- then back down- left- 8 clicks- thats half of the total allowable, and a good general setting to test for comfort

anti/counter clockwise Left- down 12 clicks from max, thats soft for rough city or hiway roads- takes all the bounce out of the front end, smooth

Is there any oily fluid coming from any of the shocks-
here is a weep/drain hole that lets fluid out-- to warn you of inner seal failure

I"M glad someone started this thread because i"ve been debating if i should get them or not but i really wanted to know how long they last .Plus if i get them i'LL BE PUTTING THEM TO THE LOWEST SETTING POSSIBLE [ride height]m,please keep me posted if they continue to ride crappy or if you got them to ride like when you just got them..after reading your post now im confused koni with sprint springs or tein ss?

I have Teins SS for almost 2.5 years which roughly more than 45K miles. During those time, approx. 30,000 miles or so with 1-2 finger gap (1/4 of the shock) and the last 15,000 miles or so with almost bottom out to the last thread. I have them used from one of the member here with already approx. 20,000 miles stock height setting. Quality ride still the same since the day I got it beside little bouncy due to too low. So yeah, it's last that long.

I can't speak on behalf of anyone else that has had any Tein products. But from my own experience I have had Tein Coilovers on my car for over a year. And haven't had not one issue with them at all. I have to say Tein makes excellent suspensions and majority of people are happy with them. Their customer service is awesome one of the best I have ever dealt with, and they also do repair work on their suspensions which IMO is awesome. But like I said I have their coilovers on my car and haven't had one issue with them at all. With anything you modify ofcourse their is always that potential that something can go wrong just happens, also makes a huge difference how you drive.

all you have to do is stay in the allowed range of height
a few threads is not even in the range~

all the info is on teins site and our vendor Mrheeltoe has similar info

If you are concerned about lifespan perhaps you should go with a company that warranties their products longer than Tein. Bilstein and koni I believe have lifetime warranties as long as you own the car. But in reality nothing lasts forever but at least being able to replace them for nothing or little cost (shipping) is more comforting than not having it. But I do not know what products either company has for our cars. Also you may have to give up stuff like EDFC.

Yeah I mean I am not blaming Tein as I know many of you guys have ahd their product and have been very satisfied, and that was one of my main reasons I purchased it as well. I'm going to look into a few of the suggestions posted on this thread and report back.

We have been selling these for a long time, and probably to the 3G TL more than any other car in the last 5 years. We don't have issues as a habit, but depending on the driver, the roads, the weather, the settings you have etc there can be a number of reasons for the damper to go soft after a while or even leak and need a reabuild.

I can't say for sure what your issue might be. First I'd doublecheck the install. Listen for noises.

Next, poke your head down there and look for fluid leaking.

If it just feels soft and sloppy, maybe you have an internal failure and you need to send the shocks in for inspection service. As luck would have it, we are posting all this info an pricing on our site right now:

FYI, you have a Twin tube setup.

What are the real pros and cons to mono tube vs. twin tube designed Coilovers? I had megans on my RSX and they were pretty hard, even on softer setting and I have the used TEIN ss now and they're nice and buttery.

Just curious.

yeah, sorry. Didn't mean to threadjack here. Sorry to hear about the issue you're having with the TEIN's being too soft.

any other input on this issue? I'm very close to ordering a new set of these and would like to know if they really do have such short lifespan.

Rockstar, saw your post in the D2 thread, made it seem like you were running Tein SS already and weren't really too happy with them. If thats the case, why wouldn't you consider another manufacturer if you don't like the Teins?

I definitely LOVE the TEIN's, but I bought my ss's off of a guy on ebay that claimed they were in perfect working order. Turns out 3 of the 4 knobs for adjusting dampening don't work, one of the rears is blown, and they're meant for an 03 accord (confirmed with tein that they may fit but it's not recommended because there are some differences and it's a longer shock). Ever since I dropped it I'm getting a weird vibration while accelerating and a thumping noise from the rear (blown shock).

I put in a claim with paypal and the guy returned my money so I have a new decision to make. I probably will go with the TEIN's because there's not much a price difference but wanted to have people weigh in on their own experience with the pros and cons of both.
