Tein H-Tech installed

Hi everyone,

Well, now that I have my audio upgrade done the next thing on the list was suspension.

I really wanted the factory suspension but it only had a 1/2 to 3/4 drop. I was looking for the comfort of the Aspec but with a slightly lower drop, around 1 inch. I settled on the Tein H Tech Springs and I must say it was the right choice for me. It dropped the car 1 inch all the way around and the ride quality is the same as the Aspec, firm but still comfortable. The height went from 26 1/2 to 25 1/2 measured at the wheelwell. I had Marcus at Healtoe Auto install them today. The install took about 2 hours. He did a great job and knew exactly what to do. I would recommend him 100% to TLers in SoCal thinking about getting some suspension work done. Great guy. I am still riding on stock OEMs Dealer chromed wheels and they fit just right in the wheelwells. I had a 35 mile drive home after the install and I could tell right away that the car was holding the road better. I plan to add a comptech RSB soon to complete the suspension. The best part was the cost, it's about 1/2 of the Aspec suspension, installed.

I try to post some pixs tomorrow if anybody is interested.

So YOU'RE the guy Marcus was telling me about. I am still trying to decide whether to do the H Tech's or the basics. Did you put a camber kit in also?

Please post pix when you have time.

Pics as well! Did you have the A-spec suspension on your car before? I have the A-spec suspension sitting in my garage, still contemplating...

Do you know if an inch front and rear is going to be the final drop or if it's going to be a little more in a month or so once the suspension has settled?

According to Marcus there should be no additional drop. I'll keep an eye on it.

I test drove several A-Spec cars at the dealer. I wanted to get a feel for suspension before I layed down the cash.

I was going back and forth between the basics and the H-Tech. I settled on the H-tech since I porbably won't be dropping it any further. Maybe later I'll add some Koni yellows. No Chamber kit. I am going to get the alignment checked to see if I need it.

Streese, You're in Riverside, I'm in Corona. Maybe we can get hookup.

Absolutely. I'm WDP Parchment. I'm going to RonJon as soon as I can find a worthy painter. I would like to see your drop next to my stock height and decide whether or not I want to go full coil-over or just spring.

Let me know what your calendar is, and if you have some time over the next week or so.

Thanks!

Thanks for comments. Personally I like the chrome OEMs on WDP. They seem to add a touch of class to the car. It's been raining off and on for the last few weeks. I finally got a chance to give it a good wash and wax. It's suppose to rain again tonight. Oh well, at least it looked good for a couple of days

I have 25-35 tint. I had it done at Best Window tinting in Tustin. They do very good work, $160 with the feltstrip installed.

elee712:
I thought about the Eibach or the Comptech. From what I read they are stiffer springs and I was looking for something more comfortable. Both are slighty more expensive too.

Next installs:
CAI (found a new/used injen for $100.00)
RSB (Marcus at Healtoe hinted he may be adding comptech RSBs to his product line)

Thanks for the nice comments Mike

The car looks AWESOME!!! I washed my rides yesterday too. They look so much happier

Yes, we do have Comptech parts in our lineup. I am going to add them to our new and improved site to be launched soon!

I am between the Tein H springs and the H&R Sport Springs which lower it a few more tenths of an inch which I feel will be better. Has anyone used the H&R sports springs? Pics? I noticed someone had the race set up but that was too low for me. I have 18" Original Aspec rims. Thanks!

My personal opinion is that if you want to get lower than the Htechs, consider getting a full coilover setup. More lowering will only serve to wear out the shocks faster, and they will need to be replaced anyway.

Besides, if you are concerned about getting just the right height, coilovers will allow you to fine tune it just how you want!

I can't see spending $$$ for only coils unless your shocks are almost worn out already and can't afford coilovers. Why not put both new springs and shocks=coilovers on at the same time. Why pay somebody 2 times to put on springs, then when shocks are fried, pay again to install new shocks. ???

People do this because they don't have all the money to do it all at once. It is more practical for people.

You know, kinda why almost everyone finances a car and pays 4-5% more for it just so they can spread the cost out. Who's got the money to pay cash for a car anyway?

i have an 07 tl-s, and am thinking about putting lowering springs on. i'll be driving the car in the winter, so i will need springs that aren't going to rust. are the teins best for that? also, how much life are you robbing from OEM shocks, when you put lowering springs on? i only have experience w/coilovers when i had my rsx-s.

King of Pain - that drop looks beautiful!!

All springs come either painted or powdercoated to prevent rust. Rust is somewhat of a non-issue with springs.

With the Htech you are not going to lose much life at all. I think you will get a lot of happy miles out of them. We still recommend adding Koni shocks as well, as this will drastically improve the handling of the car without hurting ride.

Here's an updated pic. They advertise a .6 to .7 drop, it's really closer to 1 inch. More drop that A-Spec but less than S-Tech. Still comfortable.

Yea,

You may be right. It's more than a year since I had them installed. Maybe dropped a little more. Still looks good. Maybe I'll switch to Tein Basics or SS when I get some other projects done. Maybe Konis but still not sure about the ride comfort.

do tein springs tend to settle down more compared to eibachs?

if your considering about ride comfort, definitely go with tein cs or tanabe soc typeII. i had tanabe on my tsx and ride comfort is pretty similar to tl-s.

Eibach Pro's and stock shocks on 07 TL-S lowered 1" maybe a tad more which is exactly what I wanted. Performs great, but I will definately get Koni struts/shocks next year. That way I can dial in how firm I want it. The height is perfect, so ride firmness adjustment is all I want. Plus I heard thats a great combo. And a very wise owner of a Tuner shop near Chicago said Koni shock are #1 period. I don't see a problem believing that.

Thanks for that last pic. Thats a 1" drop? I might use the same configuration. Have you been able to compare the H's with other suspensions? I'm still on the bubble about what setup to use.

Hey Lee,

I briefly rode on A-spec and Tein SS. Kinda hard to compare since it was a short ride.

I eventually want to do some suspension changes. Either replace the stock shocks with Koni Yellows or just replace everything with Tein coilovers.

That was going to be my next mod but my JL Audio amp blew a circuit about 2 weeks ago and needed to be replaced. While I was at it I replaced the sub and the sub amp.

I've been considering getting H-Techs for my 2000 TL and I wanted to know if I would have to get a camber kit. Is the drop low enough that it requires a one?
