Tein coilovers(basic,ss,flex,cs) which one?

i have a 2006 auto tl, i want to lower it and im thinking of going with a coilover setup, i know there are many companies that sell coilovers, but needed some input:
1) tein basic, ive seen a number of people have these and say the ride is a little rougher than stock, but not teeth rattling. is this true?
2) tein flex, not sure if they are offered or not
3) tein ss, are these better than the basics? also is the ride the same or rougher?
4) tein cs do they offer this?

also i want a setup that will lower me 1.5-2.0 but one that will give me the best ride, i just spent 33k on a car andd dont want to go cheap with a suspension setup

I currently have the Tein SS setup, I like it alot, really firm....... I wouldnt say its better than the Basics, but you have more options for setting your dampers.. Both can seat you lower then 2 inches, so I would recommend the SS. Theres no Flex or CS out for the TL, not that I know of.... Good luck, and post some picks when you've decided which coilover to put on.

I would recomend the SS... I had the Tein basic on for a while and then later swaped it out for the SS, the basic will be stiffer then the SS... with the SS you can adjust your dampers. So if you can I recomend getting the Tein SS.

Just bought a 2006 6MTw/Nav and I'm looking to improve the handling and reduce torque steer. Sounds like the Tein SS coilover package does a good job on the handling. What about the torque steer??? Any relief there?

Is the Tein coilover package hard to install???

Im did a little research and I will also be going with the Tein SS. You may end up paying more if you buy the basics, so why not save up some more and get coilovers. You have a little more freedom by choosing the ride you want. Im just not sure if the EDFC (is that what its called?) is worth the extra cash though since you will only probably use it once or twice.

HMMM are you sure the basics are softer than the TEIN SS at the stiffest dampening level?

For the second Gens, the SS at the stiffest setting is a firmer ride than the Basics.

ANYWAYS... if you want better handling and don't mind a firmer ride, I'd buy the one that is stiffer.

oops.. i meant the other way around....

Are you shure that the TEIN BASICS are stiffer than the TEIN SS ( at the stiffest setting)

Well, I have Basic Tein cause I got it for under $300, Almost new. Some ppl said that Tein SS is not much softer at the softest setting than Tein Basic. If I had money, I'd go with Eibach + Koni yellow combo.

What about the new H&R for the TL? I think it is the same basic design as the Tein SS but I believe is about $200 more. Has anyone tried them?

H&R's a good choice as well. Good rep and history. They didnt have the Coilovers when I was shopping for suspension, but would I go with H&R's over Teins?

Thanks for the reply. I have had H&R stuff in the past and have been very pleased. Wonder how many levels of dampening adjustments the H&R system has? I couldn't find that.

< keeps searching!

UPDATE ON THE H&R COILOVER...

I did some more research today on the H&R coilover and what I found was it is similar to the Tein Basic. No dampening adjustment but is conciderably more expensive. The local shop that I go to can get me the basic Tein system for $750, the Tein SS for $840 and the H&R for $1,000.

I am now leaning more towards the Tein SS. I also asked about the clunking issue and the installer said he has never experienced that with any Tein coilover and if you are having clunking issues something is incorrect with the install.

Here's a question.. I want to use the Tein EDFC. So if I used the H & R front sway bar with the SS's. Could I use the EDFC?

It's the strut bar you can't use. It gets in the way of the EDFC. Are you going to be taking the car to the track? I can't see any other need for onboard dampening controls for everyday driving.

Depends on what goes wrong, the dealership etc. A dealer should warranty the motor or any other part of the drivetrain if you only modded the suspension.

So in essence, I really don't need a EDFC if I'm just daily driving. How are the Tein SS's? Also, should I go with or without pillowball mounts?

EDFC is for people that track alot and DD or people that want the bling factor. Ideally for a DD (daily driver) you'd want to dial the suspension in just so and leave it there.

Pillowball mounts improve handling but you might hear clunking due to the metal hitting metal. If you dont get the pillowball mounts you will have to use the stock top mounts with the rubber. I'd skip the pillowball mounts.

The bearings on the pillowballs will also wear fast for DD.

Tein SS and basic won't differ that much on the stiffness department. Both employ the same exact springs, same spring rates, length, etc. At least, this was the fact the last time I checked last year.

Because of the same springs, the stiffness (impact you feel from bumps) will be very similar. The only difference is the shock dampening ratio, which is adjustable on the SS and not on the Basic.

Hi guys, I'm putting on the 19" RonJon Devotions in spring, and I realize I'll have to lower my car. I'm considering the Tein SS since they are adjustable. But I REALLY want to know... with 19" rims and tires and the Tein SS, is the ride of my car going to be drastically altered? I don't want a crazy hard ride. What attracted me to the TL was that it offered a perfect balance between comfort and sportiness. Will it lose all comfort if I do this? PLEASE help. Thanks guys!

Here is my $.10.

Basics. Firmer than stock. But definately not stiff suspension. The TL already has a firm suspension. These are within the same ballpark of stiffness, and they are certainly not going to offend anyone looking for more performance out of the car. They will improve the handling as well.

SS. Same exact thing as the Basics only you can make them stiffer and softer. At the softest, they will be a little softer than the Basics. At the firmest, they will be firmer than the basics. Definately not something that is going to make a world of difference, but it can be worth the extra couple bennies if you are interested in playing with them.

H&R. I only have experience on the TSX, but basically I can say they are excellent dampers. But for the money, the Teins are a better option. Mony no object I might nit-pick more. The Teins are finished nicer, but the H&Rs are aluminum case (I believe) versus the Teins being steel.

So after being direct with Tein for the last 3 and a half years, selling over $50,000 worth of their product, and having only one damper from one kit ever leak on me (which was fixed in less than a week under warranty), I like Tein stuff.
