Tein Basic vs SS question for the experts
So the key dif between the Basic and the SS is the dampening ability. I get that. It seems those who try to sway would-be purchasers of the Basic to the SS site "you're going to want the dampening adjustability of the SS" as one of, if not the key reason. Which leads me to my questions.
What level of dampening on the SS would you compare the Basic to? In other words, what are the levels on the SS, and where along that spectrum would you consider the Basic being closest to. I'm not sure if it matters, but for me, I only about a 1-1.5" drop in front and about .5-1" drop in rear of my 08 type S. And yes the reason for me asking is I would assume the Basic falls about in the middle somewhere, which is where I imagine I'd set the SS if I bought that. But I hate to assume.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure but when I was researching, I THINK someone told me the spring rates are a little different and the basics felt too soft. Not positive though. I have SS's, I set them at 1/2 way front and back and never touch them.
If I had to do it over, I'd probably just deal with the basics.

^^ I don't think the spring rates are different but I could be wrong I don't remember what they are off the site. But one reason I'm leaning towards basic's is the fact that I won't be changing the dampening at all so why pay the extra $$ for it right. Plus I'm hearing horror stories about the edfc's breaking

hey not sure if this will answer your question but it might help...i have the tein basics on my 06 accord and they are a little soft...im not saying the ride is bouncy but they are not as stiff as i would like them to be...if i had to do it over again i would have bought the tein SS or K-Sports...GL

the Tein guys are a very secretive and elite bunch on this site. Very hush hush...lol.
That's exactly what I remember reading...that the basics are too soft. But to be honest...to be low and still be able to have a smooth nice soft ride is what I was going for. Otherwise I woudl have gone F&F, Megan, or Ksport which allow you to slam, are cheaper and use monotube and height adjustment without preload change.
Me personally, I had megans before and i didn't like the quality, ease of use, stiffness.
edit: by "before" I mean on my RSX Type S.

It's ok dude...I think you can post pics, but can't confirm. I'm from Pembroke Pines...I'm sure we'll meet at a meet or something lol.
Maybe you're not using the correct link. Use the one that same <img> at the front and back of it. Also, once you post it, don't change it to a different album etc in your photoucket.

I believe the basics would be too soft if handling is your main concern. I have the ss and have the backs set to full stiff and the fronts 3 clicks softer and to me they are still a little soft.

FINALLY SOME RESPONSES haha! and a guy on a mission to post some pics. dude, load your pics into an album on THIS site and then copy the link from it. SIMPLE, thats what i do.
thanks for the feedback, guys. but i still cant decide. i suppose i should go SS if im not sure. can i ask another question....
can you adjust the height of the coilovers while the wheels are on or do they have to come off each time you do? same question about adjusting dampening too. thanks

Both height adjustment and wheel adjustment are not necessarily easy.
I've found a lot of times I try and save a buck and end up regretting it later. I've found I hate the feeling of regretting not getting the best much more than thinking I MIGHT not have needed this much.
Nice drop and comfy ride, go with basics.
Snobby like me, and MIGHT do EDFC, go with SS
You like taking corners way too fast, go with a cheaper option that let's you slam AND will be super stiff.
Unless you are gumby and have the strength of thors hammer in strange positions you will need to take off wheels to adjust. Dampening adjustment, I drilled a hole in the stock strut bar to change that, but the rears you have to remove the rear seat back and reach in to adjust. PITA. So you WILL set it and forget it. Trust me. BUt at least you will have the ability to set it to rough or smooth.
I WILL Say that the Tein's adjustment is a lot more straightforward and better designed in that the threads on the coil are bigger so less turns move the perch more.

Obviously, everyone has a different ways of expressing comfort and stiffness. I'm not a racer or a spirited driver, but I do love how a performance car rides. I like the drop and I dislike body roll. In addition, I do like the ability to dial in to where I want it. Unfortunately, you'll never be able to explain exactly what you want on here without experiencing it. Maybe another aziner in your area with one of these set ups will be able to take you for a ride?
I've never thought my basic was too soft. In fact, I think it's the opposite. At times I think most of my shock absorbing is done with my seat. I feel myself bouncing in the seat at times. I don't think I could handle it any stiffer. I don't feel any body roll but I never lost lateral traction.

Tein SS FTW!! After having them installed for a few months and changing up my rims a few times I FINALLY got my lazy ass up and found out with the SS you can easily tune the dampening with 1 finger. There is no need for EDFC or removal of FSB to adjust the fronts, all you do is stick your finger in the opening under the RSB. "click, click, click" afer that and for the rears all you do is remove the bottom seat by pulling the bottom latches and remove the 2 bolts on the sides and there you are...at each top corner the knobs to adjust the dampening. Made a dramatic difference when I went from 17's to 19's and now to 20's. Ride can be tuned to your desire each time you change something up, I change my rims and tires every year or so and I just fell in love with the car all over again!!! I wish someone would have posted something about not removing the FSB to adjust the dampening because for many many months I struggled removing the bar on top, even fucked up all my bolts. Never got removed EVER, but my dampening is great! Now can anyone share some tips or tricks on adjusting the height and spring load?
