Cool To Switch or not to Switch, that is the question~!

I am not sure if i should change to my winter tires right now. Its cold here in NY and the summer tires are still on. I have a set of winter tires in stock and i am not sure if I should put them on.

I am not sure if i am wearing them too much or if the winter ones can wait.

They are both from Vredestien. The summer tires are the Ultrac Sessantas and the winter tires are the Wintrac Extreme.

what if it snows and you are still on your summer tires and need the car that day? I know that I couldn't move out of my garage up here in Canada but I don't know what the situation in NY is like. I say just change them up now. Doubt they will wear out that fast

i laugh when i read "September or February". its like saying "i will be hungry now or next week". i say put them on sooner than later and when it comes you will be ready. if you had all-seasons i would say keep them on, but as soon as the temp drops your summer tires should come off. the fact that you still have them on seems silly to me.

Hey Blkaspec, your rims are hot. I might get those but in sparkle Silver. About those all season, i decided to get dedicated sets of tires instead of the "all in one" category because the all season tires suck!

I would change them now. Summer tires = zero traction. Not worth the risk.

On my way to get these winter tires on and after driving them for a couple of days I'll let you know how they feel and act compared to the summer ones.

Doesn't matter how they feel ( they will feel wigglie on dry pavement compared to summers ) its a matter your prepared.

FYI its not dry pavement that causes the excessive wear on winters it hear. The compound is formulated to be flexible in the cold ...

All Season tires are not designed to be optimal in one specific weather condition. They are meant to be adequate in all weather. To be able to handle different types of weather, compromises have to be made. The tread design of an all season tire is not as aggressive as that of a winter tire and is also not as flexible in the cold. An all season tire's tread will quickly get packed with snow and you lose traction.

Although all season tires are branded M&S (or M+S, which stands for Mud and Snow), this is only based on the void-to-rubber ratio of the tread design, where the severe snow rating is based on actual performance testing. If you expect you will have to drive in moderate to severe snow, you should purchase a set of winter tires. If you drive in a particularly wet climate or you only get a very small amount of snow, all season tires could be a better choise then performance summer tires.

All season tires tend to loose thier grip below 10 C where winters remain flexible below that temp.

I put my blizzaks on last month and in the last week and a half we've had almost six feet of snow and as I'm typing this it's snowing for the 3rd straight day.

Ok so this is what has happened since.

I put the winter tires on a week before we got hit with that snow storm here in NY. I must say the ride is much softer and the tires really make a difference in the snow. Duh they are snow tires. Compared to the stock setup that i had when i got the car, its so much better. I recomend the Vredestein Wintrak Extreme!!!

Aren't you lucky, you listened to everyone else and put them on early!!! I on the otherhand... decided not to and got stuck.... on Sunday night after dinner at the in-laws... I couldn't make it from Bayside to Rego Park and was forced to spend the night cause they live on a small unplowed street... i pushed my car 2 blocks hoping the bigger streets were better...they were not.... It was one of my most hated snow storm experiences.
