Strongest wheel? 1pc or 2pc?

So, just out of curiousity, i wanted to get some feedback as to which wheels that members think are "stronger"

I've been weighing out 2 sets of wheels, 1pc cast or 2pc forged. Obivously, there is a HUGE price difference, but for some reason i feel like 2pc forged wheels with a lip are more likely to bend, then 1pc wheels.. If i have to wait 3 months for my 2pc wheels, and i bend one, i dont want to wait 3 months for a replacement!

i have NEVER bent or cracked a 1pc cast wheel, and i have owned alot of rims on alot of different cars. My friends got a CLS-55 and hes on his 3rd set of 3pc forged rims, and he keeps busting them up!!

anybody?

I guess it depends on construction type.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/....jsp?techid=90 1pc forged or 1pc semi-solid forged seems stronger.

It's nice to have spare/backup wheels while you wait for replacements, but it's still inconvenient.

^^+1

I have seen forged wheels get bent when hit a pothole hard... But I have also seen cast rims crack in the same situation. I wish I could find a picture, but I had a picture of a stock/cast wheel where the wheel cracked all the way through. Looks like someone destroyed the wheel with a sledghammer.

My old roomate has a CL600. Those guys guys love to run ultra-low-profile tires... If your tires are low enough in profile, I don't think it matters what kind of wheel you have....

yea, i didnt think about the profile either

i've done extensive research on the forging processes, and they all say that it makes a stronger wheel, but i've seen sooo many people bend their 2pc or 3pc wheels.

what i really think, is the wheel design.... anything with a lip, is more likely to bend and a wheel w/o a lip (like ronjon inspyre, my old wheels)

I bent my 19" Rays....3" lip...2pc construction...forged barrel...

Its all a gimmik IMO,,,most good looking wheels are multi-piece though.

yea, the main reason for 2pc wheels is to create designs that cant be made under standard gravity casting

Low Pressure cast Alloy is the best blend of Strength and cost. But it all depends on the testing done prior to production, and the design of the wheel as well. 3-piece is better than 2 piece because it can be unassembled and parts can be replaced fairly easilly. On piece can be replaced for low cost.

^ LOL

seriously though, i think the inspyre is an amazingly designed wheel, and wont bend (unless serious impact). The spokes stretching out to the edge of wheel look like they offer a "support structure" to the outer circular edge of the wheel.

a wheel like the devotion or legend II (with a lip) seems like it would bend under a decent sized pot hole because there is nothing to support that lip upon impact

just my

my wheels have been through many
rough rides and still look fresh.

ther'es been plenty times i had to pull over to check
my wheels & tires after hitting something.
no damage. not even a lump on my slim sidewall

2 1/4'' lip on the rims
designed with a 2pc look.
plus they are very inexpensive
forged may be stronger and lighter
but for the price, I can afford to bust a rim or two

You're 100% correct. Living in NY u get used to hitting the occasional pothole or unexpected road construction! My ronjon inspyres have never cracked or even bent. When i had 235/40/18 i used to just blow out the tires but never damaged the rim. Now i have 245/40/18 and never had an issue since.....and ive hit some crazy holes at speed!
RonJon inspyres FTW! (hopefully the legends are just as strong!)
