Are spacers needed for aftermarket wheels with a 6 speed?
Sorry for my ignorance, Im a newb to these cars. But I have read a few times about 6 speed 06 TLs need spacers or something for aftermarket wheels?
Im in the market for a 6 speed TL. Im doing some wheel shopping now. I found the wheels I like on wheelmax.com They are AZA Z1 wheels 19x8.5
http://www.wheelmax.com/product.asp?ProdId=10791
When you do a wheel search on wheelmax's site it says TL (no 6 speed) and doesnt give a 6 speed option. Will these wheels fit? If not what size and offset wheels would I need? If I need spacers what size.
Im mainly looking for a 19" wheel Black or anthracite face (preferablly a 5 spoke style) with a polished lip
Something like this

I believe these are Iforged wheels. Not really looking to spend that type of money on wheels tho. The AZAs are pretty much identical and much cheaper.
Whats the difference between the 5AT and 6speed as far as wheel selection?
Sorry for all the questions. Im switching over from having a highly modified 03 Cobra. I could tell ya anything about those lol
Thanks!
Dave

To clear the brembos on the 6MT, its not always about the offset or the width of the wheel. It also depends on the design of the wheel.
The AZA looks like it will fit especially with a 38 offset but you can't be sure. Best call the manufacture and ask them

I dont have a 6MT but would suggest finding a brand of wheels which would fit without the spacers.
Spacers changes the suspension geometry and the wheel center point of support causing extra stress on suspension components and bearings.
I would suggest Ronjon Wheels (Click the banner in the upper right) and drop an email to them.
Ronjon designs are specially made for the Acura.

Yes spacers do put stress on the suspension but its the same as having a different offset. So it doesnt do any more harm than a wheel with an offset of say 35 on the TL

Yes, if you are going to get aftermarket rims, may as well get ones that come in the proper design/offset. Getting spacers is like buying a $300 piece of audio equipment and plugging it into your car with a cassette adapter. Sure it'll work, but it isn't optimal. Spacers have been known to contribute to vibrations at highway speed, especially if you have a big spacer. Spacers are also different then wheels with the proper offset, because spacers decrease the length of the stud going through the wheel. You may need longer studs if you have a big spacer.
As for offsets and such, it is very dependent on the wheel itself... For example, on my Work rims. They come in two varieties. Deep Dish and Big Disk. One is for maximum lip, the other is for clearance of big brakes. As a result, my front rims have +25mm offset, but my rears have +20mm offset. (These rims aren't on my TL, but you get the idea)
