to space or not to space?

guys, i gotta real simple question..

i have an 06 5AT with 19 x 8.5" +42mm offset (exact same as ron's inspryes)

i wanted staggered originally, but voted against that for when it came time to rotate... im pretty much sh*t out of luck.

so now, ive been thinking about adding a +5mm spacer in the rear, to make the back wheels stick out a little.

Currently, i am dropped with Tein Coil's @ about 1.8" / 1.9" inches

if i get the spacer,

a) will i rub in the rear?
b) will the car drive any worse?

anybody do this yet? please help me make the right choice

i am running pretty much the same set up. i kinda don't see the point?

if you want to though it shouldn't hurt anything as long as u don't have camber kit. camber kit might cause the tires to rub in conjunction with spacer.

42mm adding 5mm spacers will give you 37mm in the rear. You will have no probs whats so ever. I was running 35mm in the rear slammed 2.25inches and had no probs. I had 4ppl in the car one time and no rubbing. So you should be good to go with adding the 5mm spacer.

Its so funny you ask this question, because I was on the phone talking to RON about this a few hours ago, and I was thinking about doing the same thing as I will have RJ black inpyres and a TEIN COILOVER Drop. He told me that he wouldnt add anymore than a 3 to 5mm spacer. He said if you go any more than that, then you have to change out the studs.

I know ED has a 35mm offset in the back so I guess technically we can go upto a 10mm spacer. But RON also told me that it depends on the tires you have. If you currently have a 245mm tire you might be in risk of rubbing, if you got a 235mm then you'll be safe.

ED what size are your tires?

I have 235/35/19. about 1.7/1.8" drop. 19 x 8.5 +42mm... i guess a 5mm spacer will make me at +37mm.

would this in turn make my back wheels stick out a little more? thats all i really wanted. not a lot, but something noticeable

Please keep me posted, I'm not at that stage of modding yet, but I'll be there soon enough and I'd like to know. I did some searching on here and it seems that a few people have gotten spacers and changed out their studs. It seems Hubcentric Spacers are the way to go.

BTW I saw your car by Meadobrook and Glencove Road one day, before I knew you were on the boards. You were driving like you stole your car, so I didn't wanna pursue to say hi.. haha. Nice whip!

Weird. I've heard so many conflicting experiences with 35mm offset 19" wheels on slammed vehicles rubbing/not rubbing. It seemed to have worked for you though.

I'm curious if there's that much variation between TL's that cause some people to have rubbing issues while others can have a car load of people and not rub at all, although having the same exact suspension set-up.

Can anyone enlighten me on this subject? Sorry to the OP for the sidenote. If this is considered "threadjacking", I apologize and will have this reponse deleted from your post.

235/35/19 tires. Even with my 35mm offset, I still have at least another 5-8mm of space before it touches the fender. This could be due to the 235's compare to 245's tires.

yea im rocking the same tires are you ED. 235/35/19. dropped, no rubbing. i've definitely got some space to go out a little more, and i want to use it.

bbbbuuuutttt

what i didnt think about. my bolts BARELY make it through the rim now (+42mm NO LIP) so if i space, i may run short on slack with the bolts and lugs...

maybe i shouldnt

anybody done this on a similar wheel? PLEASE speak up lol.
