Someone please help answer my staggered question!

Hey guys,
can someone please help me figure out if this setup will work:

CAR:
04 TL
5 AT
Lowered on Tien SS springs (approx 1.4)

Wheels:
I have had this setup and have had no rubbing problems at ALL, now I just want to see if I can have a staggered tire setup.

20x7.5
Offset 42
tires all around 225-35-20
MY QUESTION: can i just put 245-35-20 tires in the rear and just have a staggered tire setup without rubbing? thanks!

With that offset.......you won't notice a difference, are you just going with different tires to achieve a staggered look or you are changing the rim to like 20x9.5 in the rear & 20x8.5 in the front with a 35mm thru 38 offset. If you want to staggered......that's what you woulld have to do.

if you go with the staggered tire look you cant rotate your tires so might as well get bigger wheels in the back if you going to do that. I'm I right.

Why the hell would you stagger your tires?

Staggered tire look...never heard of it...staggered wheel look, yes; staggered tire look, no.

won't the VSA get thrown off due to different tire speeds?

i think the VSA monitors the drive wheels, which is the front ones...not the dead axle rears

You won't have problem with the VSA. I tried putting stock 17" wheels infront and 20" in the rear and VSA worked fine.

There is however no point for you to get a staggered TIRE. First of all if you are doing this purely for looks, then I can tell you a 225 tire infront and a 245 tire in the rear does not look that much different. Secondly, with a wider tire in the rear you would induce more understeer but I doubt this is part of your concern.

Lastly for rubbing, I used to run a 20x8.5" +35mm offset rim with 245/35-20 tires slammed on Tein SS. There was some slight rubbing but it was easily fixed by trimming the rear bumper/A-spec lip.

Do you have the wheels already? With a 20x7.5" +42mm wheel, your new wheels would actually retract 3mm from the fender. If you have the choice, you should get the wheel with a lower offset or get a wider wheel. If you already got the wheel, then you can get some wheel spacers to push the wheels out so it look more flush to the fender.

But like TL310 said, if you want a staggered look, then get wider rims in the back.

I think the ONLY reason some of the guys on here are "going staggered" is simply to get the wider lip in the rear of the car (so that it "looks" like a BMW or other rear wheel drive car). No offense intended but putting wider TIRES in the rear does not do that for you. You would not notice the difference from the side or front or rear. The ONLY time you would notice the wider rear tires is from the 30 or 60 degree angles and nobody is really looking that hard at the car from those angles to give you any credit for the effort. Additionally, the wider tires in the rear will actually HURT the driving characteristics of the car thereby making it even LESS desirable. Some of the guys are willing to sacrafice the driving characteristics to get the wide lip but I don't think there is a TL owner on here who would be willing to give up the handling just for some wider tires WITHOUT the lip.

Hey guys same here. I'm about to get a set of Sevas wheels in 20's, staggered. Now the rear wheels I think are 20x10. Is that going to be too big or can I correct that with the offset of the wheel? Any suggestions will help a lot. Thanks

Michael - This has been covered in this sub-forum a number of times. 20x0's are doable but depending on the actual sized tire it may take work, may not work at all or may not be a problem. Do a search for all of K-Shawn's prior post and get yourself an education...oh yea, and learn to use the search button...

why would you want the staggered look on a TL anyway? Anyone who knows a little something about acuras would know that they're FWD and that the staggered look is completely useless and actually hampers the car's performance... there's also a good chance they'd laugh at you if they realized what kind of look you were going for... especially with only staggered tires...

Some people are willing to sacrifice handling for that RWD look. They might impress kids in high school but they are just jokes for for people who really know cars.

Whatever floats your boat!

What are you talking about? I'm getting the wheels not just the tires, and any way h
ow can you get a staggered look when the size of the lip is the same on every wheel?

I have been making these same observations for quite awhile, now I just hold my tongue and laugh to myself. for some reason completely logical and rational reasoning is lost on the glamour crowd!

Its funny to me how you two always seem to start shit. Not just with each other either but with everyone. You both always get so mad so fast. You guys really need to take a step back and ask yourselves how much you enjoy being on this site.

Now you're going to meet up? hope you guys can handle it like adults....

do staggered rims just staggering the tires won't give you that look you crave just go with a 20x8.5 all the way around with a 255-30-20 it will look wide and aggresive and your car will still handle great

I've been searching for this for days now and I can't find a direct answer. Some one here told me you may know the answer. Ok I know you're running on 20x10 with an offset of 35mm, does that means that if I do 20x10 with 40mm my wheel will be more toward the inside of the fender or more to the outside. Please help me here so I can buy my wheels. Thanks

If you're going to run 20x10s........you have to use a 35mm offset, here's a picture of the 20x10s from the rear.

The wheels I want only comes in 40mm. Will it be more toward the outside of the fender or inwards. That's wat I can't understand.

Michael - 40 will push the outside of the wheel more towards the center of the car (Inward). Therefore, it may also "scrap" on the suspension. Try it and let us know how it goes. Some guys on here have added 5mm spacers. You could do that and then you would have the same (adjusted) offset as K-Shawn

I run 20x8.5 in front with 20x10 in rear. I don't rub and really like the stagger look.I have not had any problems and don't notice any difference in the handling of my car.Just test fit first.

Do you have pics of your car from the back. I saw a couple of them from the side. I will like to see how the wheels look from the back with 40mm offset. That's the offset I might have to get.
