Shock/Strut Question

Okay, I've read that our TL's don't have shocks, only struts. On NAPA after putting my vin # in it shows both shocks and struts for the rear and shocks and struts for the front. I'm clueless as to what to get, I want something for less than $500 total that provides a soft ride that can corner decently. Whatever is on my car now "came on it when I bought it" IMO doesn't corner well, when I go through a curve I feel like the car is going to slide through it whereas when I drive my moms 3 series or my roomies Passat they both go through the same curve stiff and controlled like. My TL is a A-Spec model but I don't necessarily care to hunt down and pay an outrageous price for the A-Spec replacement stuff. When replacing shocks and/or struts what all should you replace at the same time? I'm new to this replacing of anything dealing in suspension. Thanks in advance

looking into Tokico Blue or White with Tein S-tech if you want to go to after market however its only cost around $650 for F&R shock+spring assembly A-spec (contact the vendor here) and all you need to do is dismount the old one and replace with the new one (direct replacement) no special tools needed.

number 2 and 3 is what you needed for front

number 6 is the part you needed for rear.

koni yellows with some lowering springs will be very good, however its slightly over your budget. If you want to stay within your budget get something like tokico blue shocks or koni's lower end oem replacement shocks with lowering springs. if you really want to improve handling to keep up with a 3 series you might need to do more like rear sway bar, front sway bar, etc. the 3 series is a very good handling sedan from factory.

about your question on shocks/struts, I think the TL has shocks, but it doesnt really matter, it seems like people use shocks and struts interchangeable all the time anyways

You could buy Koni shocks and use your stock springs, or pick up a set of used springs in the Black Market (for sale section). Here is a link to a set of Koni's......
