Shipping Method for Tires
I just received a set of new Falken 512s from a very well known discount tire dealer. I was shocked to see that the tires arrived with nothing but a few tension straps around them (two held together). Maybe I'm being totally naive, but I thought the tires would be shipped BOXED.
I should have inquired about this ahead of time but I would have never throught that tires would be shipped without ANY packing material. The UPS driver literally threw them off the truck and rolled them up the driveway.
Yeah...Okay...I know they're just tires and they see a lot worse than that on the road, but I was not impressed with the amount of sidewall rash they received during transit. They look like they'll probably clean-up okay - we'll see.
Is it normal for Internet order tires to be shipped this way?

My wheels and tires came on a pallette, we cut the shrink wrapped pallette open while still on the truck on my drive way and unloaded by hand...
rubber can be cleaned up, were they damaged?

sidewall rash?? not likely from the handler (dhl, fedex, etc), more likely they've been shuffled around quite a bit. sidewall scuffs i bet.
my 2nd set of falkens had to be returned because i needed new size. when i ship just tires, i saran wrap each tire using the saran-stretch wrap from staples. comes on easy to use roll with handle. i simply wrap around the tire passing it through the center, kinda like wrapping a wire loom. then i place 2 wrapped tires together and tape them together very well, again passing tape roll through center of tire.
i suggest to anyone buying tires online. make your order then call the place, tell them that you want your tires saran wrapped. sender usually blames the shipper. if they are saran wrapped then you will be able to tell if the shipper or the sender is to blame.
strapped tires are normal for shipping.

hptire.net guarantees a good tire and if you are not happy they will take it back at their cost and ship a new one.
