She missed the dog but creamed the curb...

My daughter was driving my 2007 TL Type-S yesterday and when she brought the car home crying she went on to explain that a dog ran out into the street and in front of her. Instinctively (but not correctly) she tried to swerve to the left to avoid hitting the dog, hitting the center divider instead. A brief look at the car shows the steering wheel at about 9:30 to drive down the road "straight" and a good deal of curb rash around almost the entire wheel lip. I dropped it off to my alignment guy (hoping it was a bent tie rod at worst) and he is telling me stuff is bent (and not the tie rod). He thought it might the the LCA and possibly the front subframe as being bent, telling me the toe is out like 3 degrees. I hope to get the car racked up and in the air later today where I can check the dimensions of the front frame for deformation. But things are starting to sound "extensive" shall we say. I've seen that front subframe and it is a battleship of a piece. I find it hard to believe it is tweaked over the LCA. Or it could be worse...

I am curious if anyone has had a similar experience and is able to tell me the weak spots or otherwise what to check. It also looks like I will be in need of a parts car in the SoCal area if anyone has any leads.

PS: The good news is no one was hurt (not even the dog's owner who should be getting whacked over this) and the car can be repaired.

I " kissed" TWO curbs in TWO different situations.
in each situation, I bent underside components.
the first time, I maybe was going 35mph and went head on into a curb and bent the front subframe....

this is the part where you get insurance involved...
as that's what I did both times...and they fixed the car back to ORIGINAL condition.

the second time, I slid into a curb at maybe 20mph during a tight turn..
this time, subframe was not bent, but impact hit front wheel which bent LCA

in conclusion, call insurance.
tell daughter it's okay and no one was hurt

Thanks for the prompt response. She has had a few years as a rookie with more that the typical cites and incidents. SO much so I created a poster to have her marl off the months without any adverse events. She made it about 14 months. But it is looking like this is a serious bump and the costs are not worth paying out of pocket to keep a "chargeable incident" off her driving record with regards to insurance.

I cannot say my life was much different at that age so yea, the apple does not fall far and it is all part of growing up.

She's alive and not hurt so that's what matters.

LOL.
it's all life learning experiences!

I have found the same, it's better to increase premiums unless you want big out of pocket expense.
sucks that it will be on her driving record for three years (texas holds 3 years of driving records)
but maybe that will be an incentive, as it was for me... my goal was to stay accident/ticket free for three years to finally reduce premiums.

for the record, my "high speed" 35mph impact incurred over $13k worth of damages.
things were bent, transmission case was cracked, air bags deployed, etc.
I say 35 mph, because it was a turn in a neighborhood, and there's NO way i was going above 40.

came over the curb and hit a protruding manhole cover and sat uptop the manhole cover

I guess justnspace's experience in curb hugging came in handy.

Yeah, it pretty much confirmed that 3G TLs don't have Takata airbags
