Rotors and brakes
 

I have an 08 tl base with 136k and I just failed my inspection. They said I needed rotors and rear brake pads. These pads only have 22k miles but the rotors are original. I'm sure I'm supposed to get more than 22k miles on new brakes or does the rotors have something to do with the lifespan on the brakes

Check to make sure the brakes aren't sticking.

If they are not sticking or malfunctioning, then...yes...for you and for the pads you chose to buy, 22K miles is normal.

Good to also check whether the brakes are actually worn out.

Being from a northern state I would replace the rotors and do pads while you're at it. The rear pads are relatively cheap and good insurance of having new.

I would also check to see if the rear calipers are seizing up. Over the years of having mine I had to replace 3 on 2 different cars. It just happens!

Rotors have a minimum thickness and as they get worn they get thinner and thinner. That may be why it failed. It's best to ask the inspection shop why you failed, the rotors, pads, fluid, sticking caliper, etc.
