Question Reverse Lip, Flat Lip, Step Lip.. what does it all mean?

As the title says... what does Reverse Lip, Flat Lip and Step lip mean when buying a 3 piece wheel? These are options looking at rims, but doesnt give a meaning. Thanks!

I'm going to go out on a limb here...

Reverse Lip - face of wheel is to the outside of the wheel and the lip is to the inside; ie, no lip.

Flat Lip - a lip that is flat, like on the Devotions.

Step Lip - a lip that has two levels, like the lip on a Crown Vic.

I could be wrong as I did just guess, but they seem reasonable

Ah, reverse lip = negative offset...got it. Got stepped right and flat right (flat is flat, whether reversed or not). 2 out of 3...not bad!

Thanks for the pics.. I was looking at the Kinesis wheels and there is a K19 and a K19R and they both look identical. Supposedly the R (Reverse) is suppose to give a different perception.. deeper?

i didnt see the k19r.

i did see the k18 and the k18r though.

the k18 is the stepped lip and the k18r is the reverse lip.

k18 = stepped lip

k18r = reverse lip

so from what i can tell, the k19 is the same as the k18 except one is 19" and the other is 18"

if you cant see the difference between the k18 and the k18r, then i dont know what to tell you.

Ah.. here's the answer straight from Kinesis:

The K19R is also available for your car. The reverse drop center wheels (i.e. K58R) have a flat outer lip. We use a larger diameter center than their standard wheel counterpart (i.e. K58). To achieve this, the step in the outer rim (where you see the valve stem on a standard wheel) is moved to the back of the wheel. Because of the longer spoke, the reverse drop center appears to be a larger wheel and because the outer rim is not interrupted by changes in diameter it appears to be deeper. Also, we utilize one of the assembly bolt holes to house the valve stem. Currently, we offer reverse drop center wheels in 18 and 19”. Please go to http://www.kinesismotorsport.com/K58R.htm to see a close up of a reverse drop center wheel.

I had to go back and look at these pics.. and now I can see the difference. The difference is where I marked it red. The Reverse does give it a deeper look and thats what I want.

NON R

REVERSED (no step lip)

Now the question is.. do you want more shine without the R or deepness with the R?

Looking from far away, the non R gives the rims more shine since it has that extra layer percepted to the eye at a side view. But, from a side view, the deepness is not there and this is where the Reverse helps. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Here are some pretty nice steplipped rims on some Z's. Looks a little larger than normal (the lip), but it gives it that extra shine which I like.
