Recommended tire size for 8.5 A-specs

What tire size do you guys recommend for the 18x8.5 a-specs, 235/40/18 or 245/40/18? Any big differences?

245 is wider and a bit more bulky than the 235. Out of the two tires sizes you posted I personally would go with the 235/40.

If you want to retain the OE diameter of the Michelins go with the wider 245/40-18.
The 235/40-18 is only 25.4" tall.

If you want my opinion, id try to stay close to Factory overall tire height. that way your speedo is not thrown off. factory tire size is 235/45/17 on a base. and in theory for every inch you go up on rims, u go down 5mm so 235/40/18 would be the size. unless you want to get a wider look.

play around with sizes on this site.

You're right as you want to stay with the OE tire size, but remember, the OE Michelin 235/45-17 was 25.6" when new, not the 25.4" diameter of aftermarket replacement tires, therefore the 245/40-18 at 25.7" is almost a perfect fit, your choice.

You're correct, but he wants the size of the factory Michelins 245 is the way to go, if not go with the smaller size.

I had 245s before my current 235s. I couldn't tell a difference when driving there's barely a visual difference.

245s:

I like the 245/40 on the 8.5 A specs just for more rim protection!

235 are too skinny. I have 255/40/18 on the fronts. It's still within 3% of OEM sizing. They have a nice meaty look, give a good ride, and let me stack the wheels without worrying about scratching them (not that they aren't)

I put 245 on mine. I like the look of the sidewalls better on the 245 vs the 235... Also, you aint gonna get any extra-rim protection... Believe me, my wife proved it to me in the parking garage at her work

I have 235s and they are ok, Id get 245 next time though, I dont like how the wheel looks like it sticks out a lot further than the tire, but thats mostly the Aspec wheel design

I took some more pictures of the 235s. I love the look of the 255s but I would rub in the back.

Stupid rock

Dat heavy edit

Honestly I think A-Specs look great no matter the tire width. I've run both 235 and 245 with no issues.

I think you'll have lots of rubbing. I test fitted some spare wheels I had that were 18x8.5" with 245/45-18 and it rubbed pretty badly. 50 series will be worse.

@JORTS

I had several tire fitted to my aspec 8.0 and most of them have little stretch with 235. You can see the lip exposed and I hate that bullshit. Factory size my ass. Next time I would go with 245.

For 8.5, I personally would go 255/40. If any issue with rubbing then roll the fender.

As I mentioned above - I have 255/40 Michelin Super Sports on my 8.5" A-Specs and have no rubbing. Caveat is suspension is completely stock.

I’m sure someone might know. I was able to find a pair of the 8.5 Aspec’s and I was wondering if a 265/35/18 tire will fit on them and not rub if I’m still on stock suspension. I know they are the same diameter as the stock wheels so my speedo will stay correct but I’m concerned about rubbing.

^well...

265mm is like 10.4" wide.

Why would you put them on a 8.5" wide wheel?

I really doubt they'll rub, however.

Just keep in mind the 35 profile is very low so the ride will likely be rougher. I personally am riding on 255/40/18 and like it, but to each his own. Also you mentioned finding a pair - so just two? If so, remember you probably aren't going to be rotating your tires unless you are going wide in the front and narrow in the rear???

<div style="text-align:left;">I should say a set. I found it off a 2004 TL that got rear ended. They’re in really good shape, only thing I will probably change is the color as they are the plain silver not the gun metal. I like the gun metal color but I also really like this bronze color I found when I was looking at getting them powder coated</div>

You need to look inside the rim to confirm the width of the rims you have. The A-Spec rims came primarily in 8.0" width but in 2004 there were the 8.5" width rims that only came in gun metal. I wouldn't recommend 265/35 on an 8" rim............

I did check the back I 100% confirmed they are the 8.5’s. They were incredibly hard to find I’ve spent months trying to get a set.
