Recommendations - replacement tires?

I need to replace the front tires on my '08 TL because one of them was cut from hitting a pothole (I think). The factory tires are Bridgestones, but I'm not convinced they're worth the money. When i researched tires (all-season), the recommendations are all over the place. Why someone would make a recommendation on tires he's just put 30 miles on is beyond me. Anyway, based on your driving of a TL, rather than all the other makes listed on some of the tire sites, which brand and model would you recommend. I don't want to spend a fortune right now becaue we need four tires for my wife's 350Z, but I don't want junk, either. Suggestions? Thanks. Hy

I assume you have the Bridgestone EL-42 Turanzas and not the Bridgestone RE030/050 summer tire option.

So far, I like the Bridgestone RE970 (replaces the RE960 A/S) Pole Positions, which are all-season tires with good traction, low noise and supposedly low wear (40K mile warranty, I think). They are not cheap @ $180 apiece, but cheaper and seem better than the OEM Michelin MXM4 (Navi cars) or the Turanzas (non-Navi cars). You'll find the RE970 rated #1 for all-seasons in Tire Rack's tire testing.

A number of members here like the Continental DWS, which are also all-seasons and run for $120 or so, IIRC. They came in #2 or #3 in Tire Rack testing, but have softer sidewalls than Bridgestones or Michelins. There is a large thread here on the DWS.

I had Yokohama Advan S.4s before the RE970 Pole Positions-- the S.4s were stickier than the Michelins throughout their lifespan, but slightly noisier on certain surfaces. The S.4 cost about the same as the RE970, which seem quieter and at least as sticky with about 2K miles (and one autocross ) on them.

I just replaced Toyo Versado's after 47,000 miles (2/32). A very serviceable touring tire, quite, good ride. It still had good wet traction, though I was getting wheel spin with jack rabbit starts on wet pavement. I replaced them with Michelin MXM4's. They have a rebate going on through June, making them a few $$$ more than the Toyo's.

I spent about $145 per tire installed for the Toyo's in 2009. Now they are $190.00, I spent $226 for the MXM4. These are installed, disposal fees, and road force balanced. When you factor the costs for shipping and install costs, Tire Rack may not save you much.

I got the primacy mxv4s from dtd for $148.50 after $5 off posted price and $70 gc when i called them. this was 215 50 17 for my cl which is about 3/4 inch less footprint than the stock 05 tl size and they will last longer. I could have got the yokohamas for $130 each but i believe the michelins were a better value. all season tires are more noisy and wear out quicker because they are generally a directional tread.
