Quick question about tire size

Hi,

My buddy has four new P225/45/17 tires he is willing to give me. I need new summer tires on my 05 TL but the OEM rims have P235/45/17. My question for you experts is can these tires be mounted on my TL? I am not sure what the width/ aspect ratio mean.

I tried looking under the tire faq section but found postings on mostly rims and not tires. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

What is the difference? Will it be noticable?

not really noticeable, the main thing you will see is visually there will not be any rubber that helps protect the rim from slight curbage

It'll fit, but IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED. Stick with 1 size above or below OEM sizes, no matter what ANYBODY SAYS. The first and foremost reason is safety. Also, if you go too far over or under the recommended tire size, performance will be adversely affected. That's why VIP cars are VIP, not performance oriented, with their stretched fitments.
