Question Pirelli vs. Continental

Hey all,
I am looking at new tires. I like the following:
1. Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S
2. Continental ContiExtreme contact
3. Bridgestone Potenza RE950

I have reviewed Tire Rack.com and they seem to be very close in the ratings.
I am looking for anyone's live experience with these tires.
Has anyone actual experience?
What can you tell me about road noise, useful life, traction, etc.

By the way, I live in KC and drive approx. 25k-30k miles per year. I drive all over Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, & Kansas, 60% highway, 40% in city. Mostly dry roads, but some rain, snow.

Oh yea, 20004 TL, Anthracite, Automatic, stock wheels.

Thanks!

I've got the P-Zeros on my 04 auto (also anthracite -- great taste, eh!) w/stock wheels -- and I LOVE the damn things! Handling is night & day from the Turanzas esp. in wet weather. Ride comfort is just as good, and they (so far) are quieter than the Turanzas ever were. It's not snowed yet, and I've got just under 5K miles on 'em so tread life and snow traction are still unknowns for me. But with fairly hard driving, the Zeros are probably good for no more than 25K, this assumes that your hard driving is not constant and only when you need it! My guess is based on what users have written in their tirerack reviews so I may not have enlightened you much there.

The others I can only guess about and relate what I've read....so of course I will.

You probably wouldn't go wrong by choosing the Conti Extreme, either. There are members here using them, and also at T.O.V-Tec. From what I've read here and there, those users are satisfied as well. My guess would be that treadlife is the longest on this tire (of the three). Foul weather traction should be superb for an all-season.

The RE-950, from what I've read, is far less of a sure bet in snow, but competitive with the other two in other categories.

So it comes down to price and what things are most important to you. From what you wrote, and in my humble but well-read opinion, it's a toss-up between (1) and (2). Unless you fear the mid-western snowstorms -- if so, go with the Conti.

I have 245/45/17's eXtreme contacts on stock wheels. The tires have been great so far. Quiet, smooth, very good grip. Pretty good in the rain, took some aggressive corners in the wet. Don't know about snow.

Also had a set on my 2K1 CL-S. Thought they were great for the money.

I've had the conti's on my last car (01 Eclipse GT), which replaced the stock Eagle RS-A's... I got 'em because of the good reviews and decent price.

They were relatively quiet and smooth, but handling was noticeably worse than the RS-A's.

Most people on here are getting Pzero Neros MS or Pilot Sport 2's, as far as All Seasons go.

I'm with richrath on this one (except for his bad taste in color - gotta go NBP! ). The P-Zero Neros have been money for me. Dry, rain, whatever, these have been the best tires I've had in years. Nothing more fun that taking a highway curve at 80+ MPH and not feeling like the car is gonna break loose, or not hydroplaning all over creation when there's a little rain on the street. They are are a little more expensive, but well worth it.

It's cool Kelnshe -- NBP would have been my 2nd choice!

Gansmanms - Another member of the P-Zero club!

Cool.
with my traveling it will be about 3 weeks before I can get them. I will post my initial thoughts/results after I get them.

Also,
NBP was my second choice
BPA (Blue Pearl Abyss) was my third choice.

Question about the P-Zeros. I've heard that they tend to tramline quite a bit. Can y'all weight in on that?

SouthernBoy - I've heard/read that too, but I don't seem to notice it much, no more than with the Turanzas. Though I haven't driven over metal grates like on a drawbridge, or on grooved highways wtih 'em. Some of what I read seemed qualified by the idea that while the tramlining was noticable, it might not be much worse than most other performance tires.

I bet others will pipe in with some horror stories though -- at least it'll seem that way
