Opinions Needed RE960AS vs Pilot Sport Plus
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
I know there has been a ton of threads on these tires. I've already done my research, just looking for quick opinion/advice.
Bridgestones going for $680 shipped from discount tires.
Michelins $805 shipped.
With the Msft cashback, its $510 vs $600. I was set on the bridgestones but its only $90 more for the michelins. What do you guys think? I live in Seattle btw.

Figure your priorities, then make your determination:
If snow traction is a priority, then get the Michelins. They have a higher void-to-tread ratio and do better in the snow.
If deep-water hydroplaining is a priority, then get the Michelins. The tread design was better at evacuating larger amounts of water.
If the above are secondary considerations to wet and dry breaking and overall performance handling, then get the RE960s, which have a far more modern tread design with a higher tread-to-void ratio (more rubber on the ground).
Finally, the treadlife/cost ratio for the tires is a tie. The Michelins have been recompounded to have best-in-class treadlife. The extra cost for the Michelins will balance itself out in the longer treadlife.

The only reason I went with the Bridgestones vs the Michelin was due to the available sizes. I really wanted the Michelin tho but I'm glad I went with the Bridgestones. Very nice tire. Can't go wrong with either one. If money is a big concern then go with the cheaper ones.

For that small of a difference ($90), I'd get the Michelins. Only reason I've not realy considered the PS is the unusually high cost compared tire of similar performacne (BS 960, GY F1 AS, etc).
If you can get a top rated tire in that category mounted and balanced for <$750 it's a good deal.

Well, let's go to aesthetics. The Michelin isn't the best looking tread design in the world, but neither is the RE960. The RE960 actually looks better, however, as it wears. Can't say the same for the Michelins-- nor can I really get over the small shoulder blocks on the Michelins. I think the RE960s should handily outperform the Michelins on hard cornering. Of course, if driving in snow is a real concern, those smaller shoulder blocks come in handy.

Test Results @ Tire Rack:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=115
Michelin's perfomed better (by far in a few areas) in almost all segments. BS did keep up or slightly outperform in most of the wet segments.

Funny thing is even though the BS gets higher ratings on the Wet Track (Stability, Response, etc) and a higher overall Wet Track rating, the Michelin is practically the same, if not better, on in the Wet tests (Track, Slalom, Stopping and G-Load) than the BS.
Seems to me the Pilots would've rated better in the individual wet catagories considering a very strong showing in Wet Track Times, Wet Slalom, Wet Stopping Distance and Wet Skid Pad.
Just noticed the Pilots come with a 45,000 mile tread life warranty too. Thats a big plus if they run as good old as they seem to (based on test) new.

AVB for President!
I have have the RE960AS on mine and I still have 7 to 8 32ndth of an inch left on them after 30,000 miles. If that's not good, then I don't know what is. I know I'm not a hard driver, but still...

I have http://www.goodyeartires.com/eagle/eagleF1AS_innov.html
Treadwear rating of 420 versus the RE960's 400.
No problems whatsoever and I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.
Here's the latest tire ratings from Mavis Discount Tire where I get mine:

oh man big big big major fuck! So I was trying to buy my tires today, but I just cannot find that msft cashback anymore. I searched cheap ipod, xbox, wii, etc. It looks like msft took back the cashback deal with ebay. I hope its just temporary.. if not omg Im going to cry... I just put a bunch of money in the bank, I was going to buy springs, rotors, and tires. Fuck me..
