Opinion on Yoko Avid W4's
#2
I believe the W4s are a brand new tire just released this summer from Yokohama - so new that there are no user reviews even on tirerack.com.
For what it's worth, I just put on Yokohama ADVAN S4s last week to replace the OEM Michelins. What a difference! The steering feels much more solid and they're much quieter. Grip is much improved too. It hasn't rained here so I can't comment on wet grip but I'm sure it's going to be very good too.
Both my parent's cars and my sister's cars have Yokohamas. They've been very solid, reliable tires.

First, I would look into going with 245/45-17. I installed the Yoko S.4 (245) on our TL. Great tire, fantastic handling and a great ride. One of the fellows on this site had mentioned a while back that his family owns a tire dealership and they recommended the W4's for the TL. Much less expensive than the S.4, and looks like similar construction with a variation in tread design.
They are both all season, but the W4S has a tread width that is .5" wider and is NOT directional as is the S.4.

Not sure if this is true, but the local shop said the tire is VERY similar to the H4 with a higher speed rating. He said the H4 isn't the best for wet/snow IF that is an issue. It also has a wider footprint as Turbonut said -- wider isn't always better when it comes to wet.
The S4 is a sweet tire, but priced a bid high for me. I went with a 245/45 in a Potenza (on par with the S4 and Pilot).
