Question Offset Question

hey what happens if you put wheels on your car that is the wrong offset? will it mess up anything on the car?

my bro wants to buy these wheels that were off an accord and he has a lexus. but he thinks it will fit and i want to tell him what would happen if it were the wrong offset. they are 18X8.

thanks

the offset basically determines the position of the rim/tire when mounted to the car...ie, sticks out of the well, flush to fender, or sunken into well....which will affect over or under-steering characteristic. those wheels will more than likely fit fine in the front and be somewhat sunken in the rear.

what year/model lexus?

my bro has a 98 ES300. the rims he wants are coming off a 98-00 accord coupe i think. so it will just affect the ride and look or will it cause any damage to the rotors, brakes, etc.? i seen post that the ES has +40-45 offset and that our cars are like 45-50.

thanks stan

yeah, no damage. both cars have the same bolt pattern. a concern would be the center bore of the wheel...make sure the wheel hole is big enough to fit on the car's rotor hub.
