OEM rim what is the largest tire that is safe to put on.

STD SPEC IS 235/45/17

285 would be quite safe on an 8" wheel, the drag race community does it all the time. However, you'd have some issues with fitment, and need to do the standard stuff to fit them to a TL. My recommendation is that you get a 255 like a lot of guys have before you.
