Noticeable Difference with Lightweight Wheels?
Have any of you guys tried a "lightweight" wheel on their TL's? And if so, was there a noticeable change in performance?
Most websites (tirerack, discount tire, etc.) don't list the weights. I went to a couple manufacturer websites (Enkei) and noticed that they only list the weight of the "Racing" wheels.
15.6 - 18.8lbs. seem to be the norm on those.
BTW, I have the stock '07 TL-S wheels ...
Any input would be appreciated
Thanks

There was a wbesite with a LONG list of wheels and their weights. I can't find the link. chill_dog probably has it.

The TL-S wheels are already lightweight, approx 20 lbs, so you wont see a big difference. You would have to get into the 17 lb or less category and there isnt much there that looks good enough to justify the performance increase. My Enkei RP03s are 20.2 lbs and with the tires they ended up close to the weight of the stock TL-S setup and I havent noticed much of a difference.
On the other hand, if you pop on a set of the 27-30 lb wheels that most people are getting you will definitely see a decrease in handling and acceleration.

Additionally, the weight savings can be easily offset by choosing the wrong (not light weight) tire.

I wouldn't say I noticed a huge difference in terms of performance but the car did accelerate a bit quicker. I have 18" SSR Comps and I think they weigh about 16-18 lbs. Stock 17" wheel is about 25 lbs. I'm really happy that unsprung weight is overall lighter and the engine doesn't have to work harder to spin the wheels and braking is improved. Plus, it's easier to turn the steering wheel. I'm a huge fan of lightweight wheels and always would look for a set for any car I would own. The only downside that I could think of is that when going over small bumps in the road, you feel them more than ever. Prolly because the shock travel is faster than having a heavier rim. I feel that a lighter wheel bounces up from a bump faster than a heavier wheel. Traveling from the shocks to the cabin, it feels like a '"jarring" bump. A heavier wheel would help absorb the shock of the bump in the road, so the bump feels somewhat smoother.. I hope that makes sense.

I weighed the tire and wheel and it was 46 lbs. The tire weighs 25 lbs according to Michelin and then you have about 1/2 a pound for the TPMS, wheel weights, etc. So that is approximately 20 lbs.
