Is this normal after lowering car?

A while back I installed a set of Koni Yellow Sport shocks and Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Since then I find that when I go over large bumps I experience a large thump/clunk (More on the thump side) any yes, everything is torqued to proper specs.

On a side note, what PSI is everyone using with the ContiExtremeContact DWS? I'm using factory recommended settings, maybe too high?

thump, that's okay. that's the forces connecting with the body/frame.

clunks, or any sharp metal to metal noises are bad

But the thump was never there with the stock suspension. Will the car be noiser with after market suspension, I guess is what I'm asking everyone who has lowered their car.

yes. it's just because of the stiffer spring coupled with a higher damper rate. aftermarket suspension will make the car louder over bumps.

I have never lowered my Type S but if I were to expect noises as being normal it wouldnt be worth it to me. I have owned several other cars that I lowered and never experienced any noises or clunks. If everything is bolted down correctly I dont think there should be any noise. I would say remove each wheel and inspect everything again just to be sure.
As for tire pressure I am running the DWS tires on my stock 17" Type S wheels and run stock pressure which is 35 front and 32 rear. No weird noises, tire wear seems just fine, and fuel economy is 25mpg without ever touching a highway.

Oh and also, since it looks like we both have the same cars post up some pics of it lowered if you have any :-)

James

Thanks for the info! Do you also have a Vette? Hopefully get back into one in the next year or so.

Here you go,

Have you solved the thump yet?

I have a similar noise on the front left. It's annoying and I may tighten up the dampeners to stop the springs from compressing so much and making that noise. It's more of a clunk though...

Hey is your car 6MT or AT? I installed Eibach prokits on my 6MT TL yesterday and my front sits significantly higher.. its almost the same as stock height on TLs from what I can tell.. I know your car is a TL-S which has a different part number for the springs but I just wanted to see if you had this issue in the beginning and perhaps they settled later..

thanks

how much time does it typically take for it to settle. i called eibach and they said the springs don't settle since they are already compressed from the factory but the bushings could settle.

whats the chance that my front springs are defective? eibach is offering to send me new front springs to try those out but ill need to pay for labor. they are going to find out from their tech dept if the datasheet that shows 1.0" drop was confirmed with *both* MT and AT.

you using 235 or 245 tires ?

from what I see in pics hes probably usin 245s.
235 will make it look higher since it sits further in the fender and is like 1/8" shorter

Other than that after a hundread miles it should be pretty much sitted

my gf's mom installed eibach springs on her E class and right after install it looked completely stock. Probably after a week is when I noticed it drop down a little. Some people do it right after they install springs/coilovers. But personally, I would get the alignment about 2 weeks after install (but thats just me)

Car is 5AT. I had just the opposite experience where the front looked awesome and the back still looked like a 4X4 I said to my mechanic let's drop the rear some more when he suggested we take it for a spin around the block. When we got back it had already settled and looked decent. Good luck.

Stiffer aftermarket suspension causes that. You're fine. Mine does the same, I have Neuspeed springs with koni shocks

I run cold psi at 35 front 33 rear which gives me roughly 37 / 35 when warmed up.

Continentals DWS front / Michelin Rear

I had my issue resolved yesterday so I figured I'd update this for the OP. They hadn't tightened mine to spec, and kept telling me it was normal and whatnot. Then I SHOWED the guy that it's not by comparing different sides and the obvious fact that the clunk was metal to metal and he finally figured it out. Simple solution.

Did you accidentally remove your bump stop? I did when I dropped my RSX a few years back.
