No Kumho's for TL

Don't ever get the Kumho Escta LX Platinum tires for the TL. I have had them on for a little over 10k miles and they are a shitty ass tire. The ride quality stinks to high heaven, every little bump and road imperfection is brought into the cabin and while their noise level was great at first, they have become much louder very quickly. I guess you only get what you pay for. If you want a grand touring tire that is great for the TL, get the Bridgestone Serenity's. I had them on before and they were much much better. I did not get them again due to cost but I wish I had now!

Just a little FYI for you all!

If I remember correctly, I heard that korean tires are the SUCK.

Jesstzn 04-09-2011 09:00 AM

What size did you have?

aiy_yah 04-17-2011 06:57 PM

I had Kumho winter tires on my previous car and they were great. Never tried their summer or all seasons though.

Good deal on heads up braaah

I've had 19" kumhos before and they aren't that great. The sidewalls were especially weak. I won't buy them again.

FWIW my TL had Kumho's on it when I bought it in August. They have about 6/32nds of tread life left on it, yet when I was having them mounted on my new Type S rims the guy told me the sidewalls are baaaaad; he said I was borderline passing inspection.

Dude, I second that!! When I had bought my car last year as a CPO they had installed new tires during the CPO process and the tires they put on there were the Kumho's Ecsta ASX and at first the car rode well but after like 10k miles or so of driving they just got louder and right now it sounds like an off road mud tire howling at low speeds! I am going to purchase the Bridgestone Serenity's and get rid of these crappy Kumho's soon...

Thanks for the heads up. I do seem to recall someone telling me that when I was first looking for tires for my 19's, but I wasnt sure if they were just trying to upsell my purchase. Went with falken 452 instead.

Well guys, I finally bought some Bridgestone Turanza's Serenity today for my 06 TL and all I gotta say is that the ride is so much quieter then when I had the Kumho's. I got the tires from tiresplus for less then what tirereack has on there website..

Give us a 10k mile review when the time comes

I had the Serenity on my last car (G35) and loved them. A bit pricy but a very quiet tire. The sidewall wasn't real stiff but compromises that for noise. Overall a very good tire. I had the Kumho ASX on a Infiniti I30T and liked them at 1st but have to agree once you hit around 10K miles they start getting noisy. I will NOT buy Kumho again.

I've had a set of 245/40/18 Kuhmo Ecsta Platinum on my A-Specs for two years with no problems whatsoever. THE only reason why I had to replace two of the tires is because of camber/toe wear I caused by not getting an alignment after lowering the car.

I will report back again after 10k to see how these tires hold up but I have a feeling that these tires are going to remain quiet as the mileage increases. I used to have Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza on my Nissan Frontier Crewcab I used to have and those tires were really quiet into 30k miles use of them until I traded the truck

I had the Ecsta Platinum LX on my 96 TL until I sold it. I had no problems whatsoever :)

Truck tire versus a lower profile car tire are completely different. Just saying because all of my past truck tires were relatively quiet.

mb1976 06-28-2011 03:38 PM

I think the noise level of each tires goes by which performace category it is in. Like for example when I had an 06 Nissan Frontier Nismo the truck came with BFG's Rugged Trail T/A's they eventually developed a slight howling sound at low speeds like some big off road mud tires which progressively got worse as the mileage went up. It started from 10k and I got rid of them at 20k. Before, I tried the Dueler H/L Alenza's I first tried the Dueler A/T Revo 2 from the reviews thinking they will be a very quiet tires. Tires were quiet but had a very faint howling sound which I had a feeling would probably gotten worst as the mileage went up so, I ended swapping it out for the Duelar Alenza's and those tires were extremely quiet all the way through trading in the truck at 60k. The revo's were the on/off road all terrain tires while the alenza's were all season touring tires. Now my TL came with Ultra High Performace all season tires which was the Kumho's ASX which got noiser developing the same howling sound if not a little louder then the truck. The Bridgestone Serenity's are in the grand touring category that's rated one of the few quietest tires out there.

Thanks for the heads up. I almost get them until I see your post.

GrwnUpRcer 08-08-2011 03:37 PM

dont you guys want tires with a little sport in their character? If you wanted a bridgestone, why not the 960AS PP? i LOVE mine. the serenity is way overpriced for what it is. i'd put the serenity on buick, not a 'sporty' sedan like the TL.

better yet, the 970AS PP just came out AND its cheaper than the 960 cause it was just introduced.

oh yeah, and take a look at the tread when they start 'howling'. i would bet theyre pretty feathered. gotta be diligent with the tire rotations.

not all Korean tires are bad...havent had any glaring issues with my hankook evo v12s. Great looking tire too imo. I have approx 10k on them and they've given me no problems.

ABP_04TL 08-08-2011 08:00 PM

ive owned Kumho tires 19s 235/35-19 & 255/30-19 great tires never an issue
