Nitrogen gas in tires!?!?!?
My Acura Dealer (mcgrath) is having a special on nitrogen tires. Basically 39.99 which is like 10 bucks a tire and you get unlimited re-fills on your tires as long as you don't change the tire (like get a flat).
Winter is coming up and I hate when my tire pressure monitor tells me my tires are low on pressure, so im thinking nitrogen is the solution.
any one else think 40 bucks is a good investment?

The only benefit I see is that its supposed to stay in the tire longer than air. I wouldn't do it. Paying $40 and having to drive all the way to the Acura dealer to fill your tires every time seems like a waste.

Yes, do a search it has been beaten to death. Absolutely no benefit whatsoever the way they do it for automotive use. $1 is too much for it. I did it just to prove it to myself and no change in cold to hot pressures over the 78% nitrogen in the atmosphere. You will get better results by making sure the air you're putting in the tires is very dry.

I know Nitrogen is a waste. Just found it funny that other day a 6000 PSI trailer of nitrogen was much cheaper than 6000 PSI air. I know it is not exactly the same thing but if you follow it back you see the Nitrogen gas they put in tires is pennies.

too many hobbies...
I just got a new set of 4 tires recently at my regular shop (not an Acura dealer). I was kind of pissed to look at my bill after I paid it and saw they charged me $6/tire for nitrogen ($24 total). Same crap as what you mentioned - lifetime refill and all that. The problem is, the shop is 20 minutes from my house, so I will rarely use the refill option. I am still pissed that they slipped that charge in there without asking me first. It was easy to slip in since I had about $1000 of work on the bill and I just didn't notice the extra $24 until later.

, don't go for it. $40 is a total rip for that service. But, I will say that I am impressed with nitrogen in general. When I had it in my tires a few years ago, I barely ever had to add air to my tires, even in the dead of winter, my tires were showing the same pressure as in the summer. That's awesome since with regular air, it always goes down 4-5 psi. The problem is, it costs almost nothing to add that 4-5 psi when you need to.
Maybe you can see if they will just put nitrogen in the tires for like $10 or $15, but not include free refills. I would do that. The extra money for refills is a waste because are you really going to head out to the dealer just to put air in your tires?

I had the opposite experience. Mine showed the same temperature change from cold to hot, winter to summer. But I've never had an issue with leaking. I never have to add air to the tires.

You see it works like this gas companies can make compressed nitrogen dirt cheap. They say we can give you compressed nitrogen for next to nothing. Stand alone just a bottle and regulator. You can put it anywhere, no compressor to be concerned about. You can then charge customers for something they would never pay for. We will do the marketing so customers will perceive value. Note, even if the dealer did not use it.. How are you going to know. They just need the set-up.

Unless you're dealing with aircraft tires or are racing over 170 mph, I don't see the point for such obsession with pressure changes.
