New Volk Racing Forged Magnesium Wheels

Volk Racing by Rays Engineering has introduced new wheels. I'm not sure what they're even named. US introduction probably later this summer.

Forged magnesium center sections with polished lips. Multi-Piece configuration. Sizes are 18x7.5 to 19x10.5. List prices will assuredly start at around $1,200 each.

Magnesium rocks...too bad its so damn expensive.

What's "Magnesium" mean? And what's the benefit? (I'm thinking, whatever it is... it's stronger and lighter, right?)

Magnesium is an element (Mg). It is a lightweight malleable silvery-white metal. In the automotive industry, especially wheels, it is usually constructed as an alloy with other materials such as nickel, silicon, and other metals to produce an incredibly strong yet extremely lightweight material.

One of the downsides to magnesium wheels is that they are flammable as the element magnesium will easily burn in a pure state with just heat and oxygen. It is not unheard of that racing wheels will catch fire from the heat generated by brake rotors. But the savings in weight and the high temperatures required to light up a magnesium alloy wheel justify using them.

The term 'mag wheel' refers to magnesium wheels although it became more of a generic term for sporty wheels either in biking or auto racing.

Volk Racing also offers the TE37 Magnesium wheel. Most of the Skyline GT-R's in the Japan Grand Touring Championship use these specific wheels labeled with the NISMO name. Magnesium wheels aren't cheap and none of the Volk mags are below $1,000 each. I hope i was somewhat informative.
