New for 2012! Tein Street Advance Coilovers (The SS successor)

So i did some picking around the Tein Website today as i am in the market for a new suspension in the next few weeks and i was pretty much hell bent on buying the Tein Super Streets till i saw this! (forgive me if this has been posted but is searched with several different keywords and no dice)

http://www.tein.com/products/street_...rice_list.html

all for just $940 and they are supposed to be BETTER than the super streets..

you guys have any input? i think i will be the guinea pig for these

Interesting. Subscribed.

interesting...its good they shortened up the shell case for increased shock durability and stroke travel. it seems they didnt increase the length of threading on the body to go lower though

yea i asked about that, the rep said it will provide the same drop ranges per application while still providing a 200% increase in dampening force feedback (softer settings feel softer, stiffer settings feel stiffer)

My last questions was about EDFC Compatibility, but he said that these are so new that he cant give me a definitive answer on whether these will be backwards compatible with the existing unit made for the SS's or if there is a new unit in the works for the new AS's i guess i will have to wait a week or two and call back once they gather more information. (or i find someone willing to let me test fit their EDFC unit off of their SS's in the miami area :wish: lol

Those are the same features that the current SS has. The only major difference is that they changed the damping range.

The Tein rep also mentioned something about a certain part no longer being welded on anymore and that the threads are now zt coated (at least I think that's what he called it) which is to keep the threads from getting rusted and it keeps debris out and stuff. I called an authorized dealer today in my local area and it turns out he can get them for me for 925 shipped, which is cheaper than anyone offers the ss's on ebay so that is another plus

t0fudelivery 01-05-2012 08:11 PM

if you were already looking at the SS, you might as well get these. keep us posted with pics!

Comparing EDFC part numbers (in the notes portion) it seems as though EDFC motor for the Advance is the same as the SS...

if that's the case then im gonna go ahead and buy it, worse case scenario, i can sell it to a fellow aziner if it doesn't fit.
One more thing, do you guys think that $200 is a reasonable price to do an allignment on my car once it is dropped and the ingals rear camber kit is installed? This shop supposedly specializes in alignments with dropped vehicles taking in to account the weight of the car with the driver inside...

chinkwapin 01-06-2012 09:51 AM

sounds expensive to me. do you really need corner balancing that intense? when i lower my car i account for my weight (drivers front is slightly higher than passengers front) but i dont sit in my car during the alignment. i dont think you'll need that unless you are going to the track with a specific setting in mind.

i paid $120 at firestone three years ago for lifetime alignments. ive done at least 10-12 alignments since then at firestone and they do custom camber settings for me. call around and ask which one will do lowered cars

Damn i heard firestone won't even touch a car that is dropped.. i wish a local member here in miami could chime in on a cheaper spot or an actual "drop-friendly Firestone, heck maybe even someone that wants to help me install these over some brewskees and free lunch lol :wish:

swoosh 01-06-2012 10:57 AM

^^^ I got to firestone and my ride is dropped on Tein Basis....I have lifetime alignment with them and I get the alignment every 5K miles

the only thing is find a firestone that has the alignment rack which goes underground....so its easier to put ur ride on the rack as compared to the olders racks where they have to put wooden blocks under the car in order to avoid scraping....

chinkwapin 01-06-2012 11:03 AM

^+1 the in ground alignment racks are the shit. you can be slammed to the ground and still get it aligned. the only ones i know of are in santee (SD area) and elk grove (sac area). im sure theres a few here and there, call around and ask!

swoosh 01-06-2012 11:13 AM

^^^ gotta love Kansas....all the firestones here are either NEWly built and hence those racks or have their old rack upgraded

emilio320 01-06-2012 12:56 PM

Thanks guys i will definitely look into this! I just called 4 different firestones in my area though, and they all said the same thing.. they DON'T have underground alignment racks so they can not work on dropped cars : / FML there goes the "lifetime alignment" route

swoosh 01-06-2012 01:09 PM

^^^ lol....i got really lucky with firestone....

when i first moved to KS....went there to see if they can align my car....instead found this sexy chic working there....took her out to dinner....found a 50% coupon on here ;)

paid like $80 for lifetime alignment....and got taken care of every time i went there, until (censored)

but yeah plenty of firestones around :)

vietxquangstah 01-06-2012 01:15 PM

if you have a NTB in florida, call around. the NTB i go to has in-ground alignment racks. not all NTBs have in-ground racks

I also heard the new version has a better lube on them to, last longer in bad conditions. My vote goes to the new version :thumbsup::thumbsup:

When I installed my Tein SS coilovers I also bought the best adjustable rear rods-Ingels and I wasted my money. The guy that did the 4 wheel lazer aliegnment said he didnt have to adjust them at all. I was lowered about 1.75" F&R on a 06 TL manual. I didnt pay $200, I think it was $140 because they charged me $40 to install the new rods in back, it was a nasty cold rainy day. I would have installed them myself (piece of cake)

swoosh 01-08-2012 09:42 AM

^^^ i would suggest the camber kit unless your cool with buying tires every 15K miles....

i could see my threads on my FALKEN ZE912 after 15K miles NOT COOL....

ABP_04TL 01-08-2012 11:13 AM

<---- Happy with my SS... put them to the test already and wow!

I was thinking the same thing. Not from an install standpoint but more so for such a nice setup it seems incomplete without them.

Regardless, congrats on the purchase Emilio! I'm interested to see how much better these really are over the famed SS.

Thanks! I'm giving some serious consideration to buying new acura top hats, to make tis installation easier and also to be able to make this a more reversible mod if ever i need to go back to stock. anyone know where i can find the part numbers for all the top hat parts?

Any updates.........??

stemslayit 02-09-2012 11:01 PM

I just ordered a set of these as well! I threw in the Ingalls rear camber kit too.

I'd love to get new top hats too man, but with less than 50,000 miles on the odometer, I can't justify spending at least another 150. :\

Dude I think u have a point there, cus I only have 33,000 on my odometer so I have even less justification for buying new top hats, what I am realllyyy waiting for is to buy the edfc kit, cus I refuse to install this setup without it lol ..I just haven't received official word yet on whether or not the edfc from the ss will fit the new advance coilovers, I'm gonna call tein today and find out

stemslayit 02-12-2012 02:52 AM

I'm thinking it would..but when you find out for sure, let us know. Im strongly considering edfc as well.

DevtypeS 02-12-2012 04:39 PM

Let us know how it feel bro because I'm looking to get my tein asap thx

As I stated ( I had the best adjustable rear rods and he didnt have to adjust them at all, and I was dropped -1.75" F & R )

Thats what I did. I bought all the OEM Acura parts so I didnt have to compress coils on OEM coilovers. Took OEM out, put Tein SS in

Damn it, looks like i won't be able to go that route unless i want to wait another month to drop these babies in which I DON'T.

UPDATE: So i finally got around to speaking from someone from TEIN today and apparently they have finally tested and confirmed EDFC compatibility for the new TEIN Advance units.
My suspicions were confirmed and it looks like its the same part#'s for the TEIN SS units. here are the part #'s

Controller Unit:
EDK04-K4469 MSRP= $253 not to be confused with EDKU4-K4469

EDFC Motor kit:
EDK05-10100 MSRP= $165 (cheaper on ebay too)

Interesting note, the guy from Tein also mentioned that the front strut bar must be removed in order for the motors to fit, won't that be a big loss in ride handling? i don't know if i want to get rid of my strut bar for the motor fitment... Unless there is an aftermarket solution for strut bars? Is this the same case for Tein SS users of EDFC ??

AtlM5 02-18-2012 01:07 AM

People have always had to remove the strut bar for the EDFC.. Heeltoe auto's strut bar looks like the best solution to the problem

SVTruong 02-20-2012 11:43 PM

can't wait for a review! also pics... keep us posted!
