Never heard of flatspotting until 11K miles on my '04TL

I'm basically a Sunday driver who knew relatively little about the mechanical details of my '04TL. Then one day a month or so ago on the first cool day of autumn the car started to shake as I first drove it in the morning. After 5 minutes or so the shaking would go away and the ride became smooth. Dumb me thought "Oh I'll just get the front tires balanced and the shaking will go away.". That didn't help. Then the left rear tire started to go flat and I thought, "Hmm, I think I'll check one of the Acura Forums and see if there are any complaints about tires.". It was then that I came across a term I had never heard of, --flatspotting--. When I read that people were attributing this characteristic to the originally installed tires I knew it was time to think about buying 4 new tires. After reading a little more about which tire people liked I got the Kumho Ecsta ASX. I live near a Sears Auto Center which made buying them and getting them installed easy and fast. I may have paid a few extra dollars than if I had bought them on the net and shopped around for an installer but you know what -- the convenience was well worth the extra cost. As it turns out this may have been the best decision I have made with my TL in the 11K miles that I have driven during the past 2 years. Thanks to everyone here who helped me overcome this problem and get back to enjoying my TL.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for sharing this with us. It might make it easier for others trying to decide which tires to get when replacement time comes.
