Need to replace stock Michelins - opinions?

Hi all - after 40K miles - it's time to replace the stock tires on my '06 TL. Any suggestions on some worthy replacements? I don't have the dough for new rims, etc. - just need new tires (but of high(est) quality).

I live in the Pacific NW and we got a bit of snow this year and obviously rain - will all weather tires ruin the handling? Should I just replace with a new set of the Michelins? Any other opinions?

Thanks in advance!

I was going to recommend the nitto neogen's but I just checked and they don't make them on the stock size.

I'm not an expert on tires but I just bought a set of summer tires and I did a lot of research. If you want all season high performance, a lot of people like the goodyear GT's and the General's. You won't find a bad review about them, and they come at a good price.

research

ok - I did some research and have narrowed it down to two choices at this point:

BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S

or

Goodyear Eagle GT

I like to run hard in the curves on on/off ramps and occasionally like to run my TL in the 100's but really just want that occasional performance with a quiet tire, comfortable ride and decent on wet roads.

Now - help me decide. Thanks!

I'm not an expert on this topic... But I would THINK that unless your TL is heavily modified you will not notice the difference between high end summer tires and mid-range summer tires. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

summer tires are designed for temps above 32F, have increased water channelling for better wet/rain braking,, and work really good wet or dry

Normal, M&S (mud and snow) designated tires, are designed to work below 32F, no problem in basic snow conditions, They have less braking and cornering ability as the silicas in the compound are different due to the temp issue.

General Exclaim is tested on tirerack.com as best summer tire- but also has the M&S designation on the tire itrself so its ok for all weather/some snow
I've had mine over a year and praise them often~

go to www.tirerack.com
click on a tire review that has a TL icon- click that and only TL owners choices and reports will show up

Webbah, your question will probably get moved to the Wheels, Tires & Suspention Section. You might want to check out that portion of Acurazine. You'll find alot of information and suggestions there.

I had to get a new set of tires at 26k because my alignment wiped out my tires. I looked around and everyone (including Costco and Tirerack) wanted $300 per for the OEM Michelin's. I wound up getting a set of Michelin Pilot A/S, AND they only cost me $108 each from Tirerack.com (they were doing a closeout). Very happy with these tires.
