Need New Tires...Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position or Pirelli PZero Nero M&S?

Hi,

I need new tires...did some research on tirerack and found this:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS

Anybody have experience with the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires? I noticed the total miles reported is pretty low...any thoughts? Although since it comes with a 40k mile warranty, that should be a big bonus.

I was set on the Pirelli's but just saw the Potenza's are new. I appreciate any help. Thanks!

If you see they have no rating for Bridgestone tires handling in the snow. Once they have that it may bring the overall rating way below the Pirellis. I'd say if you need the tires now go with either of two current top choices, which are Pirellis and Toyo Proxes 4. Proxes 4 have an advantage of much lower price. By the way www.edgeracing.com has better prices than tirerack.

I had the Bridgestone RE950s on my Saturn and my wife's Accord. They were excellent in the wet and good in the snow. They lasted a very long time. I would bet the 960s are even better. No experience with Pirelli car tires.

Thanks for the replies. I went to Discount Tire and they suggested the Yokohama YK520s. A link is here:

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...&tp=&tc=YOKHHM

The Yokohamas are about $200 cheaper ($591 vs. $785) vs. the Bridgestone Potenza 960 AS.

The Yokohamas have a 60,000 mile warranty and have good reviews, so I'm kinda stuck.

I am in the same boat as you, I need tires but already have the Pirelli P Zero Nero MS. Like many of us, I had the Turanza el 42s and the lasted about 20k. I did a bunch of research on this site and the tire rack and went with the Pirelli. We had a very difficult time balancing the first set so they were returned for another set. This set was a little easier but still not as good as we would have liked. Once the car was on the road it was pretty good. The tires were significantly better. Well today I have less than 15k on these tires and still have 6/32 of tread so there is a good year or two left in them. Unfortuneatly for me, they have become so loud that I am taking them off. The car sounds like a 4x4 with off road tires. There are no signs of damage, they have been rotated and the cars alignment is fine. The general manager of the dealership took the car for a weekend chasing a couple of rattles. He gave it back and said it was the loudest TL he had ever been in. Took it to my friend who is the service manager at a Honda dealership and we along with a former tech from Acura took it for a ride and they were amazed. there is tire shake and horrible noise. We threw a set of accord wheels and tires on and its perfect.

Needless to say, this tire may have great reviews but it has not worked for me. I am considering the Bridgestone 960as pole position or the Pilot sport AS. I am working with the tire rack right now hoping to get something in return for my less than worn tires that need to go in the garbage.

I just order a set of Nero M&S from Tirerack for my Aspec rims. Did you read the customer ratings on the M&S? I thought no matter what car you put them on had great reviews.

I was either for Nero's or Toyo Proxes 4. Tirerack didn't sell Toyo's and the local dealer wanted $228 for the Nero's Tirerack $159. Local guy told me the Toyo's are on big backorder and priced at $189.

Hi people,

I think I have decided to go the Pole Position route. The Firestone near me has a sale for buy 3, get 1 free, so it comes out to $624 plus tax for the set of 4 with installation. It's cheaper than Tirerack.

^^ I would never put Firestone's on my car after having 2 different recalls, when I had my 2000 Altima.

Look into the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. One of the best handling wet/dry tires out today and rated #1 from tirerack. I had some and would get another set when these stockers run out.

My 04TL came with EL42s... no good. Then, my dealer replaced another set of EL42s for me after 10k mileage... no good. I traded these 4 new tires to Falken 512, which was good for 15k, but noiser and noiser afterwards.

Since, for my understanding, we seem to only have 4 brands to choose (BS $150~200, Falken $100, Pirelli $160, and Michelin $210), I got Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S yesterday. So far so good. Wish they will perform better than Falken...
