What are your planned uses and preferences?
Will you need all-seasons? Will you have a separate set of winter tires? Or can you get away with summer tires like those of us who live on the West and Southern coasts?
Is your priority a quiet ride, tire wear or traction?
The OEM tire on the type S was the Michelin MXM4 Pilot, which has been replaced with the MXM4 Primacy. The Conti DW/DWS, Michelin Pilot Sport and Bridgestone Pole Position 960/970 all have their fans.
Every major brand has at least 2 different W-rated or higher tires that fit different priorities. Costco carries the Michelin and BF Goodrich brands; it sometimes also has Bridgestone tires that work on the 3G TL.
Check the TireRack.com website for overviews, tests and reviews; then use it as a baseline for pricing.
There are multiple tire threads here, too, that you can see and search for tires for specific goals.
Welcome to AZ.

If you want a tire with good dry and wet performance
1. Continental DW -> Have had 3 sets on my 760 and I absolutely love them
2. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 -> an amazing tire that has been put on many exotic cars, it's newer iteration just hit the market -> Michelin Pilot Super Sports!
If you want a good Ultra High Performance All Season Tire:
1. Continental DWS -> Have them on my TL and love them!

I originally thought about going with the Dunlop's SP Sport Signature until I saw the owner reviews on Tire Rack and seeing the # of them available on the used tire market, TONS of them actually. Ask yourself why.
Settled on the Continental DWS's and haven't looked back..

Hands down the Cooper Zeon RS3-A is the best option out there! Running them on my 08 tls and the are doing awesome! Number one rated on consumer reports for a reason and u wont be disappointed! I'm in the tire business and had nothing but good reviews

I just replace the OEM tires with 245/45 17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. I use to be a fan of Goodyear, but all their tires wore out too quickly for me. I was also used Bridgestone but the last set I had on my wife's car were terrible and I pulled them off with 50% treadlife remaining. I've always had good luck with Michelin.
