Mixing tires

Hello,
I have 4 conti dws 06 on my car. The back two are reaching the 10 year mark and I want to replace them. The fronts should be good for a long while.

The conti dws 06 seem to be discontinued. The conti dws 06 PLUS is the replacement model. The thread pattern looks identical and I've read the only difference is materials. The PLUS have 10% better traction.

Any reasons why I shouldn't buy the PLUS. I usually only rotate in pairs.

As you mention, the tread patterns are very similar; therefore, if the dws 06 PLUS is the current designated replacement for the vintage dws 06, there should not be a problem.

Sounds like a legit compromise to get the remaining life out of the two fronts.

I've a set of 235/45/17 cont extreme contact sports on my CL-S6 and love them.

how old are the front 2? If you do rotations regularly they should be wearing evenly.

You can replaced with DWS06 plus, just keep them on the same axle. Normally new tires go on rear and older ones on front.

My first 4 wore evenly with regular rotations and lasted about 40k. I've had bad luck with the 4 I installed in 2012. I had to prematurely replace two that wore on the inside due to a bad alignment (at that time I did not work on my car, trusted that the dealer would do the job correctly, and never bothered to check my tread wear). The front two are maybe four years old and 8/32. The back two are nine years and 5/32.

Just as a note if you haven't bought anything yet and still use the stock tire size, Tire Rack has still has the originals on closeout in stock size, at $131.19 each.

Thanks I saw that on their website as well. Unfortunately, they don't install and I did not want to worry about warranty claims from tire seller and tire installer so I went with Discount Tire for around the same price.

When I arrived for the install, they told me the computer should not have let me order a discontinued model and upgraded me to the PLUS for no charge.

I thought about cancelling and getting the tires from Tire Rack but I just don't want to deal with a separate installer.
