Looking to drop my car, but ...

I just recently purchased some 18x9.5" wheels. They really look agressive, im gonna roll the rear fenders so i can run 255 all around. Now to make the look perfect it really needs a drop, im not looking for anything crazy just to have a nice even 1 finger gap drop. I hate tucked in tires. Currently i have A-spec suspension on the car. Most of my driving is after work and on weekends, so usually around the city. Pretty much the reason why i only have 47 000 miles on her and its an 2005. I wouldnt even have that much if i didnt take long trips occasionally from NJ to charlotte NC. The A-spec rides ok in my opinion and is very comfortable even for long trips. To some that might be even to much.

Now to my concern, I would really like to drop the car, nothing crazy as i mentioned but i dont wann compromise to much of a ride.

What would be my best option, do i necessarily need coilovers or can i get away with springs. Im sure i could sell the a-spec suspension to compensate somewhat for a coilover purchase.

Im pretty sure that once i set it i wont be playing to much with it.

what do you guys think of the new TEIN Basis. or are the TEIN Advance worth the extra money...

I dont wanna sway off to far from a-spec as far as ride comfort...

Maybe just by some Koni's and use your current aspec springs? IHC has all kinds of good info on that setup, and Justinspace is also on that setup. IDK if you will get the 1 finger gap with the aspec springs, but the 2 members mentioned above will have
more input. You should retain ride quality, also the Koni's have Damping adjustability.

U want ride Ride comfort, u remember how my car felt....tein street advanced!!!,there is nothing that can come even close other than stock....It actually drives better than stock..

Your going to need coilovers,to achieve perfect height,as I remember you have a system in the trunk,to stop saggin in the rear, and also dampening adjustment is a must if you want smooth ride because basic Coilovers will not do the job, when it comes to comfort

another question regarding the coilovers.... i was thinking to reuse my top hats from the original suspension that i swapped out with the A-spec. I dont think they have more then 20k on them and look in very good condition actually.

Should i buy new ones or stick with what i have ... ?

good, will save me on an alignment...

another thing that came to mi mind is, once i lower it how do you guys jack up the car. The jack that i have barely slides in now as is with the a-spec suspension on... I guess i would have to get a low profile one... additional money again

Alignment with camber kits I get em for $80 bucks...without cheaper $65.......

Well I have access to a lift anytime I want to work on my car,but even so is still a Pain in the ass to get it on,especially now that I'm lower....removing the plate from the jack helps also.....

Good way also is pull car up by fender while someone puts the jack under...after doing so many times I'm use to it...

^ OH HELL TO THE NO!

drive up on some 2x4's (i use 2x8's) then slide the jack under the car. i have a low profile jack too, but the boards themselves give you nearly two inches more clearance

The lift I use I'm not able to drive up on 2x4......but if u was to do it in a garage or something it will be easier to do....
The alignment shop I went to had them and it was a breeze, but the kind of lift they have is the one you drive up on,

I would get some but I have no need for them

^ i read it as you were using a jack, not a lift.

i use several 2x8's when driving up on the ramp at the aligmnet shop. constantly moving the boards to keep the car raised enough. slowly but surely and without any scraping.

Bukvaman, I'm really interested in your setup! It sounds like we have the same tastes: I HATE stretched and tucked in tires, and want to run an 18x9.5 wheel with at least a 255 tire (I'd love to get a 265 on there but am wondering if I'd have to run an 18x9 wheel). What offsets do you have on your wheels? I like the aggressive look of the "flush" look, but I want to be more flush with my tires than my wheels. Do you have any pictures of your setup right now?

I'm looking at Forgestar F14's in a 18x9.5 and want a 255+ series tire (I'd even go up to 275 if I could). But I don't know what offset I would need to get the aggressive and "flush" look.

Interested in seeing what you got.

I know everyone says coils are the way to go, but to be honest I have 2 of almost the same TLs (04 & 05), 1 is completely stock and the other has 18s with race springs. You can barely tell the difference, if anything the springs are more comfy to me. Might depend on the roads tho, I know some parts of jersey are pretty torn up compared to down by me. If you don't drive it often I'd go with the springs but I know, my frugalness comes into play with my judgment lol
