Kuhmo Ecsta 712
Just got my Kuhmos put on the other day. 225 / 45 / 17. I know that these are not the best tires out their, but they are good enough. Handling has improved, the ride is the same and they dont chirp all the time like the stocks did. Anyways....if you are on a budget, then these tires are the obvious choice. I got mine installed w/ balance, stems etc. for 440 out the door. I couldnt believe how inexpensive they were. No complaints yet.

I just took a set off my M5. I was quite happy with them and they performed great for the money and best of all were very quiet (until you pushed it, then they squealed like a pig). However, S03's have come so far down in price, I figured for about $250 more it was worth trying them. They are awesome. I have 18x8.5's on my BMW and bought the 245/40/18. The 712's are about $126 at Tire Rack and the S03's $196. I really hated the 712's under hard braking though. I had to run them on the track once and it wasn't fun.

Actually, the 712 is only $89 at Tire Rack! I am looking at the Khumo's too. So what is the verdict on them? Should I get them? How long do they last?

I hear good things about them. A lot of people think just because it's from Korea and since they've never heard of the name "Kumho", they automatically think it's bad. For $89, give it a try. Those tires has an alignment system which will tell you if your tire is overflated of underflated, also, Kumho has been around for years and is the 10th largest tire company in the world, not to mention that they use Kumho tires in World Rally Championships.

BTW, do you know how long it'll last (how many miles)?

still a Masshole
My buddy has Kuhmos on his A4 and they have just about 30k miles on them, with some decent thread left on them. I think they give a great combination of performance, safety (pretty good in rain) and durability. They sound like a deal for the money.
How are the S03s for wear?

If your looking for long lasting treadwear, try the Sumitomo HTR+, it has a rating of 340 AA A or you can get the Michelin Pilot XGT H4 with a rating of 400 A A, but it's HR rated.

Another option
I just put on a set of 225/45/17 Dunlop SP Sport FM901s...came down to the Kumho's versus these...very close in price. Real happy with these boys, cause they stick like glue and don't howl.

Damn, so many good choices. Too bad $$$ is tight right now. I really wanted to get the S-03 or Toyo T1-S but they are mad expensive! So I guess Khumos is pretty good for its price. Thanks guys!
