I just picked up a set of Potenza RE-01R at 255/40/17. I've noticed a number of you have went up to 255/40/17 and have had positive results. However, I did not see if any of you went with this particular model of tire. Has anyone used this setup in the past? I currently have a 2007 TL-S with the stock TL-S rims (17x8). Are there any problems with putting this tire on? They just look so much wider that it doesn't look as if it would fit.

Inaccurate

As long as your TL is not extremely lowered (slammed), the 255/40 will fit EASILY !!!! (with room to spare)

Had them installed yesterday and oh my lord they grip so much better. Unfortunately, my alignment is off and what wasn't noticeable on my old stock tires is much noticeable with these sticky and wider tires.

Good choice, I went with the same tire in 245/45 17. These tires are phenomenal. You will now be able to take advantage of the handling capabilities of this car.
