How long do stock shocks last with springs? Possibly blown shock

i've searched for this answer but got many differing numbers (as expected) but i'm curious to get the opinion of people with springs. my car has 60k and i put springs on this past weekend on the front (rear was going to happen upcoming weekend).

went over a speed bump on my test run pretty slow heard a loud clunk/bang and since then my front is super bouncy when i go above 30 mph on rolling/dipping streets. this also leads to some wheel scraping/rubbing.

when are shocks typically replaced when on springs? now i'm considering holding off the rear installation and possibly getting coilovers (i know i know you don't have to say i told you so) and selling my springs IF i have blown a shock.

any info would be appreciated this was my first suspension mod and experience lowering a car

i think it all varies, bud. i know people with 100k on their OEM shocks with lowering springs and they're just fine. it's all random IMO.

i would rule out anything else BEFORE assuming you have blown shocks.

nuts/bolts tightened to spec? everything seated correctly, etc.

When i used to work at pepboys they recomend replacing the shocks at 60k i personally did not believe it coz i just think its for marketing or whatever.

The loud bang that your hearing is probably your uca hitting the frame check out the slammed thread or jayvee thread were just discussing this clunk/bang sound

Do you have camber kits in the fronts ingalls/skunks?

And yeah theres a local guy from socal selling his tein ss jump on that if you want a local sale!!

thanks for making me take a breath haha. i was rushing because i was going to get the rears installed by a shop tomorrow but now i'll wait. i tightened to specs but am going to re-load each suspension individually and make sure they are to specs. what make me think it might be blown is that i haven't heard that loud clunk/bang since that first time...

i saw jayvee's post about the UCAs and i will check out the slammed thread tonight. just surprising it might be along those lines because the spring doesn't lower much compared to others on here, but i see what you are saying

no camber kits in the front

also PM'd the guy in so cal thanks for the heads up. i think i would be more comfortable getting a full coilover set now, but will take my time and look into all options with these springs first. thanks for all your responses so far

It depends on how the shocks were used/abused. Average lifetime is 60-90k.

Sounds about right. The import thing to note is there is a difference between worn and blown. Some folks have shocks with 200k miles on them that they claim are fine. Guarantee they don't have anywhere near the dampening ability as a new shock. Shocks tend to go bad gradually for the most part.

so quick update...the stocks were not blown as i thought. i just wasn't used to the stiffer, lowered springs and was being a little sensitive/paranoid. however i found a great deal on some tein ss with top hats and will be picking up/installing those this weekend if everything goes through with the purchase.

looks like i'll soon be selling my week old H&R front springs and my brand new in box rear springs haha....the tein deal was too good to pass up on paper. i'll try to get the same stance these springs gave me, they closed the wheel gap the perfect amount
