How durable are stock wheels?

I had posted this query in my brakes thread but I figure I will ask here since I didn't get much response.

My mechanic told me I needed to replace 3 out of 4 of my stock wheels because they are bent. He cautioned against getting them again because they tend to get other TL owners who come with bent wheels 'all the time.' He wasn't trying to sell me anything.

I like the stock wheels and found a seller on ebay who has reman. ones for a good price (165). I wanted to get reman. because they will ultimately be part of my winter tire setup. In the spring I plan to get RonJon wheels so I didn't want to spend much for the winters.

I didn't cause the bending of the wheels (previous owner) and I've never had a problem with bent wheels on my old 03 Accord EX-L.

Are the 07 stock wheels any more durable? Those are available as well for the same price. Would they fit my current tires? I don't want to get the winter tires just yet.

Thanks!

According to the Acura TL 2007 press release, chassis section, the 07-08 rims are "stiffer", but there is no mention of it's weight.

That's funny....Acura had the rims made "stiffer". I think....you cannot get better than stock rims, as far as durability (unless you go really high-end 3-piece). Most rims you see online are not going to be as strong as OEM. Sounds like your best bet is 2007+ OEMs. And, where they heck you live with everyone bending Acura rims? I thought I had it bad in NYC!

Acura also says the "stiffer" 2007 base TL rims "reduce road noise". I never really believed that statement. If they had said "stiffer and lighter", that would have made more sense to me. To this day, I still don't know the exact weight of my 08 base wheels. I know there's countless threads on the weight of the other oem rims. I wish I could find out.

Well, since they're the same price and they're stiffer, I will order a set of 07-08 wheels.

Would my current tires fit on those wheels? They are both listed as 17x8.

Thanks for all responses!
