Bridgestone to Replace 25,600 Tires in U.S.

These jerk-offs should just stop making tires and move onto blenders or something within their realm of expertise (which is nill). AND shame on Acura for using these dim-wits...

Bridgestone to Replace 25,600 Tires in U.S.

Thu Aug 26,12:10 PM ET Add U.S. National - Reuters to My Yahoo!

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC said on Thursday it will replace 25,600 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires imported into the United States from Japan after data suggested a small percentage could suffer belt detachment.

The Nashville, Tennessee, unit of Japan's Bridgestone Corp (news - web sites). said the Dueler A/T 693 tires size LT285/75R16 load range D were made from July 1, 1998, through July 31, 2002, and imported as replacement tires mainly for large light trucks sold mostly through independent dealers and affiliated stores.

The data suggested a small percentage of the tires may experience belt detachment, especially if they have been under-inflated for the load carried or have been carrying heavier than recommended loads, Bridgestone said.

Bridgestone Firestone Canada plans to replace about 1,400 of the tires sold through independent dealers in Canada.

Other Dueler tires, including those of the same size and type made after July 31, 2002, are not affected, it said.

U.S. consumers can receive free replacement tires through company-owned stores and Canadian consumers should call authorized Bridgestone retailers.

Mmmm, tires made in Japan.

Those tires are for Off-road all-Terrain and for a balance between refined highway driving and off-road performance, and they have much better rating than EL42s in their own categories. I'm talking about REVO UNI-T AQ II series. (Dueler A/T has 3 types of tires, 693II, REVO UNI-T AQ II and UNI-T AQ II)

Unfortunately, due to the safety issues, Bridgestone has to recall those.

I worked part time for Firestone back in the 70's and the nick name we used for their first steel belted radials were "tread separators". History repeats itself.

Safety issues? Cheap tires should be illegal, pretty damn unsafe with flatspotting and hydroplaning and the like.
