Help with tires for my 19" wheels

The time has come to make a big decision. I currently have :
Work Varianza T1S 19x8 with Nexen 3000 - 235/35/19 tires.
The ride comfort is very bad & I'm getting tired of dodging every pothole. The tires are almost shot so I have 2 choices:
1) Replace the 19's with another, higher quality tire
2) Put stock 17" back on.

My biggest question is: can the ride quality improve with a better tire? I know the Nexen is a low profile, hard tire. Will I have the same ride upgrading to another brand?
Since I am running stock height, can I maybe go to another ratio giving me more sidewall? I don't want to spend hundreds if the ride doesn't improve a bit.
I really love the look of the 19" & really don't want to swap to stock but I'm on the fence here & am cueing up the experienced AZ TL owners for a little advice.
Thanks.

being stock suspension im surprised you are so unhappy running a 19" rim.... i think with the side rim you have the best fit is a 235/35/19 i am not sure if switching to a more expensive tire will really help in ride comfort but i know id rather roll with 19" rims than stockies lol

definitely changing the tire can help in ride quality ... look into conti dws extreme contact ... great ride comfort although prob will be expensive in 19in version although still relatively affordable for what you get

04-06 stock rims look good. If you don't like the ride on 19s then put the stockers back on. No tire is going to give you a comfortable ride on 19s in 235/35/19.

I had the nexen n 3000 in 235/35/19s....they rode ok IMO. I upgraded to nitto invos in a 245/35/19....made a difference. I'm not sure if the slightly bigger tire or the brand itself made a difference.

Also, what psi are u running in your tires? I've learned that most ppl run to much psi in the bigger wheels/tires...when I first got the nexens I ran (iirc) 42psi, ride was harsh...I dropped them to 36psi and it made a huge difference....

I always run 35psi. Will the 245 have more sidewall & will they fit my rim?

Yes, very minimal though. And yes they will fit the rim fine. 235s on stock height look funny anyways imo.
