HELP with tire sizing 18" rims

I'm sure this has been covered but was wondering if anyone can help. I have a 2004 AM TL with OEM 18" rims (believe theey are 18 x 8.5) and installed Pirelli Zero Nero M&S at the recommended size of 235/40R18. This causes the rim to stick out a bit too much for my taste.

Question to all the tire experts out there. What would you recommend for the next tire size? I will keep the 18" rims but am wondering if I should get 240 or 245s?

Any help will be appreciated.

the wheel's width is permanent. if you have 18x8.5, getting wider tires like a 245 or a 255 will not help you. if you prefer them to be tucked in some more, i suggest looking at different offsets or a wheel that is less than 8.5" wide.

I am not sure that is entirely correct. A wider section width (245 or 255) will help to tuck the wheel further inside of the tire.

you will be happy with 245/40/18's

if you want more tire in the well without a spring drop, a 245/45/18 will also work

no need for 255's

i guess i misunderstood the post. i thought Pinito was concerned about the "rim sticking out too much" and getting wider tires would only exaggerate it some more.

Pinito - one thing you should look into is how the tire's side wall is designed. they can vary from rounded, flat, or at an angle.

good luck!! the falken 512 has the rim guard which tucks the wheel in more.

the priginal posting is confusing.

for 2004, 18's only came as a-spec rims, which i believe are 18x8.5 (but for 2004 are 18x8)

2004 non-a-spec are 17x8x45mm

if you are going from 17's to 18's then i would try and find a 18x8x45 or 18x8x42 or 18x8x40 (no more than 45 and no less than 40 for a 8" wide rim).

if you choose to get a 8.5 or a 7.5 wide rim, then you'll need to adjust offset accordingly.

cheers

Sorry for the confusion. I do have the A-spec rims and want the rim to be "tucked in" a bit more. So you think 245/40/18 will do? No rubbing issues?
