Help, rear tires are rubbing W/ 235-40-18!!o

I just purchased my wheels today and they rub in the rear when I go over dips or bumps fast or put something heavy on the back seat. I bought Racing Hart M5 (1 Piece) with 235-40-18.

I think the guys put wrong offset. I have seen many people on this forum with 235-40-18 and I never heard of any complaint. My car is not lowered. I was actually concernd about the front but there is no problem in the front. Only in the back.

Does anyone know what is the highest offset avail. on
Racing Hart M5 (1 piece). The guy at the shop told me that +45 is the hightest. Is this true.

I think He put on +42.

Please post your thoghts

if those racing hart m5 1-pc wheels are like the previous evolution wheels then it's probably 18x7.5 with a 42 offset...those wheels did not have an offset higher than 42 (unless you got the 19s which came in 7.5 wide and 44 offset). so this is part of the problem. you then stuck on 235/40s to make the situation worse...225 is more appropriate but you could have gone with other sizes to make this work (215/40, 225/35). i suppose you can try and exchange the tires or shave/roll your fenders to see if it will work (might not though).

but if the 45s are available then try those wheels first.

be careful...rubbing indicates the possibility of a blowout on dips and even drops in elevation on a smooth road surface due to edges within the fender surface

good luck...

+42 with 235 tires is not a good setup.
Check to see if it's indeed the fender that it's rubbing against. I know on the 99-01 TL's, there was a little plastic tab sticking inward near the top of the rear fender well. It's basically the very end of the rear bumper. You can just shave that off with a hack-saw or something similiar.
Good luck!

conclusion: Acura TL (-S) are not true sports sedans. They cannot even handle 235 tires without rubbing. Oh wait! I already knew that! They're FWD! I'm just giving you guys sh*t! try rolling the fender a little man...it should do.

Thanks for all your input.

I got it resolve. I shaved off part of fender that is a plastic and it does not rub anymore. It only rubs if I go over BIG DIPS really hard which I don't usally do. I mean REALLY HARD. I found out that for Racing Hart M5 (1 piece), 18 x 7.5, +42 is the bigest off set. The car looks really good. It looks like my car is lowerd even though the car is not lowered. I am HAPPY!. The only conern that I have is that if I have people sitting in the back set, it might rub again going over BIG DIPS. I guess I won't know until I test it. But for daily driving, its great. With 235's , the car handle lot better. I could turn the corner really fast and car is very stable and no skidding sound from tires.

If anyone wants to put 235-40-18 tires, Just make sure is shave off 1/2 inch of the real fender (Plastic part which is a part of the bumper) and it will work fine. One thing, I don't think you should lower you car. But over all, its a good setup.

-The car looks good, looks.
-Car looks lowered. w/o being lowered.
-No compromise in ride quality and handles great.

Thank Everyone once again.

Update.

Today, I took my car back to the shop where I bought my wheels and tires. I told them it rubs when I go over BIG DIPS very hard. They said that it was no problem and took my car to the back. They had a machine that shaves the fender and they did a very clean job. Now its does not rub even if I go over BIG DIPS.Hard

I think I might even be able to lower my car now. (Probably NOT)
I once lowered one the cars that I had and I hated. Ride was rough, bumpy and I had a headache. But on the other had, my younger brother loved it. Any way, I had the car lowered for 3 days and raised back up to stock. Ever since that experiance, I decide to never every lower my cars again.
