Grinded my wheel down!

Not all the way, but at least 12 inches on the outer lip/rim. It would probavly be larger if it weren't for the tire's rim protector.

Miscalculated the angle of the curb and I felt/heard the metal being ground down. This is not only a scratch but a major gouge, with large visible metal shavings.

Would this be a major concern for rust? And how bad would this damage do to the wheel?

This is a known issue with Acura TL wheels; the wheel is too wide for the tire and therefore it is prone to damage while parking on those occasions when the wheel-to-curb distance is misjudged. The tire's "rim protector" is insufficient.

not sure about the rust issue. 3 of my rims are scratched. just did the third one last week, it was painful to hear the grinding and even moreso when i saw it. i consider myself a careful driver/parker, but those few occassions you miscalculate, you definitely pay for it. i felt like an a$$ every time it happened since our mirrors can tilt down when we reverse.

I think this is the best solution to un-do the damage and to prevent rust as well as bad looking rims.

Here's a link to mobile wheel repair. You might want to take a look at what they can do!

Well, since your rim is not steel, it probably wont rust...however....aluminum alloys do corrode if left unprotected from the elements or contamination. The bigger issue for you might be the structural intergity of the rim if enough material was lost. You might wanna look on ebay for a single rim for replacement...Jason
