Got a set of OEM ASPEC Wheels! 18x8.5....
I just picked up a set of 18" ASPEC wheels and they look to be in the gun metal color. I believe these *may* be the rare 18 x 8.5 ones as my tire size on the wheels is 245-40-ZR18. Can someone confirm if this tire size corresponds to the 8.5 width? I haven't mounted them but they look wider then the 17x8 stock wheels I have and when I measured the tire with a ruler they measure about 9.5 inches.
I got the wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE040 RFT (run flats). I'm looking forward to putting them on!
Thanks for confirming!
BTW - What should I expect a set of wheels like these to be worth?

The size of the wheel should be stamped on the inside of the wheel. Having 245/40/18 tire on it, is not an indication that you wheel is 8.5" wide. I have 18x8 A-Specs, and I'm running the same size tires for the looks and little extra protection. As far as value of these wheels goes, that would depend on the condition of the wheels. One of the vendors here was selling them for $1250 brand new, not long ago. You do the math. Whether they're 18x8 or 18x8.5, congrats on the nice wheels.

Can anyone post a pic of actual 18x8.5 wheels so I can see what the "lip" should look like. The spokes on my wheels do come to the edge of the wheel and there is a very very slight lip that goes around the edge of the rim. I dont even think its considered a lip...
ill check out the stamp when i get home. thanks

so i have the 18x8 aspec wheels. i put them on my car and noticed a lot more road noise and some knocking other interior noises after the wheels were installed. my current tire sizes are 245-40-18 - if i went with 245-45-18 would that help with the road noise and make the ride a bit smoother? the tires right now have wear and are used so perhaps if there were brand new it would be much more smoother and less noise in the interior.

will i have a smoother ride with 255-45-18 tires? my wheels are 18x8 and i noticed some rattling in my car near the rear headliner or speaker deck area after putting on these wheels. obviously the ride is a bit rougher now with the low profile tires.. the tires have some wear and may not be balanced properly.. im going to buy new tires in a couple of months and am thinking to get 255-45-18 a slightly thicker tire to help with road noise and smoother ride.. and stick with the 255 size for the looks.. wider look..
what do you think??

i thought that the 245-45-18 size may be good for ride quality and not be so thin and leave a noticeable wheel gap.. my car isnt lowered and i dont plan to lower in the future.... anyone else able to chime in about the tire size im thinkin about getting?

Let us know how this works out for you
I was thinking the same about the wheel well looking better with a larger tire
The 255 size will also increase the sidewall height of the tire
Your speedo will most likely be off by a bit if you use 45-255's....plenty of calculators available out there to find out how much error you would have

You would be adding almost 1.5" in diameter, and 3-4lbs of weight. Your speedometer would be way off. I would not do it. Stick with 245/40/18 or the factory recommended 235/40/18.

I have the 18x8.5 A specs as well...had 235/40s, just replaced with 265/35s after adding the A spec suspension...have not noticed any great difference in ride quality. I agree a 255/45-18 would be way too tall.

FWIW - I'm running 255/40-18 on the 8.5" A-Specs. I don't think I would attempt a 265 on an 8.0" rim.

thanks i guys - not sure if it was made clear earlier but i do have the 18 x 8 aspec wheels - i was the stamp on the inside of the wheel and see the visual differences.
the question i have now is that my ride is rougher and i hear some one off rattles on occasion and wanted to know if others have had the same issue... right now im on 245-40-18 tires and the tires are a bit worn and may not be properly balanced.. if i went with 245-45-18 would that help with the ride quality and help minimize wheel well gap?
thanks

I think the 245/45 would make your ride slightly better...but I also think it would look dorky (as well as throw of your speedo) and if anything probably give more wheel well gap as it is a taller tire. Ditch the run flats for a good 245/40 non run-flat and that will help your ride!!
my 2 cents worth.

245/40 is the best compromise on 8.5" A-Specs...also some tires are wider than others even though they have the same dimensions listed on the sidewall. For example, the Yoko W4S that I run is much wider than most other 245/40s.
