Good PSI Settings for 225/35/19 and 235/35/19 tires?

As the title states...

im currently running 225/35/19 on my RH C5's and i was wondering how much should i set my psi for the tires at?..(currently set at 35psi) its 19x7.5 its nothing staggered crazy..no tires stretching...

1.)i Prefer Mile/Gallon > Smoothness
2.)im not the only one who drives the car..future wifey also drives it...so i want it at a good psi to where even if she rides over pot holes my rims can be safe..
3.) i used to have it at 43psi...my dad had fuss at me saying it was dangerous...and im clueless...about all this please help me...

also i have "Another Option" (wants to avoid this route at all cost)...if things dont work out i might just get 235/35/19 all around so the tires wont be too rubber band like...and if so how much psi should i set it at?..

i don't think over 40PSI for any tire on our TL is good. most tires are rated at 50PSI MAX, some even 40PSI max. 43 is just

most people have their tires at 32-33psi.
i have continental extremecontact DWS and these tires are known for having a 'softer' sidewall than your avg tire, so people with the DWS tend to air their tires to 35-38PSI to compensate for the soft sidewall.

i can't tell you exactly what the ideal PSI is for 225/35-19s, but 43PSI is def out the question.

i think 35-38PSI range and your golden

vietxquangstah - so basically above 40 was out of there lol!! great response man!! thankx!! this helped a lot

SharksBreath - i was wondering the same...because on my TMPS screen... when its hot, air expands 1-2 psi..when its cold it drops 2 to 3...but in texas its always 9x mid afternoon...

im scared to leave it too low...My other half she never ever dodges Bumps..she just rides over them...with me i drive slow and avoid all my bumps...but she doesnt...

ill try out 38psi...and see what my future holds ... or maybe somebody needs to learn how to drive better LOL!!

Edit: I forgot to mention i have 225/35/19 Toyo Proxys ...i wonder if that can make a difference in anything?..

you need to tell your girl to respect the wheels. eventually if she just keeps cruisin' along she'll bend a wheel or blow out a tire. one good thing that's in your favor is that you're not running wide wheels, you have a conservative size but you're still running skinny tires. just tell her to be more mindful of it when she's driving. i'd hate to see them get damaged.

i'm a very careful driver, and i already bent one of my wheels on a pot hole. granted, i was going 70mph on the highway and never saw it coming + i'm running a 9.5 on a 225 tire...but still, it happened to me and it can happen to you/her too.

PSI is important and i think you'll be fine at 38.

Thankx Sharkie!!

I'll try my best to tell her...

but if anything happens to the wheels or tires...ill tell her why and how it happened maybe she will understand then...after the mistake occurs...

I was just wondering the same thing and came across this thread. Hope it still holds true... I did 3.2 instead of 3 1/2... but might change it to 3 1/2 since I have the continental extreame contact dws as well. I have been running on 2 for a month now and hit a huge pot hole but things seem to be ok.. just don't Want to lose another rim....

Hmmm, in my experience, 19" wheels wrapped with low profile tires and New Jersey do NOT mix. Said another way, I'd lay odds you're going to lose at least one more rim. Sorry, I know this is not what you want to hear.

I have Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 tires on my TL Type S. When installed the tire shop told me to keep the PSI at 42-43. I did keep the tires in that range for some time but everyone I talked to said the manufacturer's suggested range should be adhered to. I have since lowered the PSI to 37 and think that number strikes a good balance all around. Also, I feel less vulnerable to bent rims.

The psi you run in your tires all comes down to tire wear. Your tires will literally tell you the pressure to run in them. If you're running 31 you'll see the outside edges wear faster. If you're running 39 you'll see the middle strip wear faster. Everything in between is considered "normal", so 32 to 38 for the TL. With -1.5° front and rear, I get even wear at 33/34 psi, and a MUCH softer ride than at 37.

I didn't mention tire size--the Extreme Contacts are 235/45/17.

Acura's recommendation for ASPEC wheels/tires (235/40/18) is 39/36 (front/rear) on a 6MT. That's 4 psi higher than for the stock 17" wheels. Don't know if I'd go higher than that...

You bring up a great point, which is the tires with the most weight on them need more psi. With 50/50 WD cars this isn't the case, but with the TL's 61 F 38 R, it's certainly an issue. 3 psi is just what the doctor ordered.

I meant that it was 4 psi over the recommended 6MT settings for the 17" wheels (35/32), not 4 PSI over the AT settings.
