Getting a relatively cheap tire replacement...

I'm gonna replace my rear tires on my '05 5AT w/ Navi with a pair of the Kumho Ecsta ASX's... all because I found a small, but noticeable tear in the rear right tire lip (the part next to the wheel, probably due to my gf curbing it hard). I figure I don't want to kill myself on my long drive to LA next week (400 miles).

I figure to save some money I would hold off on getting something better, especially since the fronts still have tons of tread left (OEM Michelin's).

Question: Do I really need an alignment after getting the new tires for the rear?

Any other things I should be aware of in this switch? Thanks!

Edit: Oh, I plan to get this at Discount/America's Tire... Unless someone can convince me of a reputable place to get a better tire for a price cheaper than $110 per tire... (Online doesn't count, since I don't want to purchase them this way)

try online then bring them into a tire place. you can save money sometimes when getting them online. we do this to our motorcycles all the time. 3-4 sets of tires a year

Yeah this tire is $89 online at TireRack... I wonder what's the typical tire installation labor cost... if its $21 per tire, then I come out even...

Tire rack is the way to go. I just put those on my wife's Mazda6 they were $88 each. And $60 to mount and balance. 2 day delivery for like $42.

Or you could buy my brand new takeoff's from my O6 TL for $700?

$60 + $22 + $42 = $124
$124/4 = $31 per tire

I wonder what Discount/America's Tire charges for install...

I'm not sure what your math is?
It's $88 each totals $352 + $42 to ship = $394 Total
The I took them to Phillips tire and had them mounted for $60.

Grand total $454

Thats why my takeoffs woud be the best deal cause you get the tire's and rims.

My mistake about the $22 part... Some reason I saw that somewhere...

I'm talking about all the costs NOT related to the actual tire itself... If the total of the tires is 352, and the cost after shipping and mounting is 102, then revising my math would result in a little over $25 per tire...

88 + 25.50 = 113.50 per tire... I guess internet would be cheaper by about $10/tire

America's tires will charge $11 per tire to install the Kumho's... Which means $121 per tire is the net cost... Cheaper by 7.50 per tire when buying from Tirerack...

I just had all 4 tires replaced with the Kumho Ecsta ASX's at America's Tire Co, for all the labor, and tires it came out to $482.00. Includes the lifetime spin balancing and repairs and assistance.

Hit 20,000 miles a few days ago and had A1 service done and the techs at the dealer recommended new tires and same was advised from America's Tire Co, they did the test in front of me with the tread measurement tool.

I was looking into the Michelin Pilots but they were way out of my price range at the moment, ill wait out and use these tires for now and upgrade later, im pretty satisified with the Kumhos as of now, and people seem to have good feelings about em from reviews i've read.
